“There’s an old voice in my head, that’s holding me back,” Tanya sang.
“Well tell it that I miss our little talks,” I chimed back.
Little talks had to be one of the most songs to perform and right now we all ran round the stage like hyper five year olds, cheering and waving our arms with every energetic ‘Hey’.
At the end we were all in a line with our arms wrapped round each other grinning.
“Though the truth may vary, this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore.”
The audience erupted in cheers while I gave Jamie a tight hug around the waist; he gave me a kiss on the head smiling.
We all came in backstage, immediately I ran to Lace’s changing room to get changed for Blow me.
“I feel like I should be in the red light district!” I giggled pulling on the fishnet tights and knee high heels.
“Hey lady, how much are you.” Lucy said in a fake mans voice and we all collapsed with giggles.
“Why do you get to look classy?” I asked Chantelle who was wearing a black skater dress and high heels.
“Because I don’t have a boyfriend, therefore I care if people think I’m a whore,” she said with her hand on her chest in a fake high up voice.
We all laughed. There was a bang at the door.
“C’MON LADIES.”
We jumped up and ran out to go on the stage, I felt someone catch my arm, I turned to see Jamie looking at me in lust.
“You look fucking sexy,” he breathed lowly, I gave him a cheeky wink before running out on the stage. They had set up scaffolding at the back for us to hold on to, I didn’t see the relevance but it was fun to do. I quickly climbed up the back and then sat at the front and gripped on to a metal bar above my head. The music began to play.
“White knuckles and sweaty palms from hanging on to tight.”
******
“Hey,” I said poking Jamie in the back, he turned round.
“Do I know you?” he asked me, cocking his head.
“Harry’s ex-wife, January’s friend,” I told him, “Ashley works too though.”
He smiled and shook my hand, “so can I help you?”
“I just wanted to tell you that January really likes you.” I told him.
He smiled, “well I’d like to think so.”
“Really likes you,” I said, “just don’t hurt her okay?”
He smiled, “I promise I won’t.”
******
“Hey,” I said grabbing January’s arm in the hall, she looked round and glared at me.
“Yes?” she said.
“Was that…” I hesitated, “was that song about me?”
She gave a harsh laugh, but I saw a flash of pain in her eyes, “God Harry you’re so vain, the world doesn’t revolve around you you know.”
“You can’t blame me for asking.” I said looking at the ground.
“January?” a voice called, I looked to see Jamie walking up the hall looking concerned, her face looked relieved.
“Jamie.” She breathed.
“They need you out there,” he told her, placing a hand a the small of her back and pushing her in the direction of the stage.
“oh, okay,” she smiled at him, giving him a kiss on the cheek and running to her changing room to get changed.
“Will you leave her alone?” he hissed at me, I leant back against the wall.
“Go play Jamie this is bigger than you,” I told him casually.
“Why don’t you let her get on with her life?” he demanded, “You broke up with her let her move on.” I knew he was right but it hurt so much seeing January hate me and try being happy with him.
“Jamie why don’t you go out and sing your little songs some more? I hear Ol’ McDonald has a farm is very popular with you nursery pupils.” Where the hell had that come from?
“Why don’t you shut up, before I shut you up?” he threatened. I raised my hands as though in surrender.
“Oh I’m so scared!” I said, laughing I turned to my changing room but he followed me in. “do you want an autograph or anything?” I asked him, flicking on the TV, January’s performance was on she was doing well I thought.
“Why are you still here?” he asked me.
“I could ask you the same question.” I replied coldly, taking out my phone and signing on to twitter.
“You don’t need to be here,” he informed.
“Really?” I said in faux shock, “well maybe if you paid more attention to the news or January for that matter you’d understand.”
“What are you talking about?” he demanded.
“Do you think the scars on my back are a joke?” I asked him, he looked confused. I stood up and whipped my t-shirt off for the second time that day.
“Dude what the hell are you doing?” he said backing away.
I turned round to show him my exposed back.
“What the fuck does that mean?” he said lowly. I pulled my t-shirt back on.
“Do you know who found me the night of the assault?” I asked him coldly.
“January.” He stated simply.
“So maybe now you know why I’m here.” I told him, “to protect her, she may not be my girlfriend but I still care about her.”
“I can protect her.” he growled.
“Well I have the funds and the connections.” I said, “What do you have? Good intentions will only get you so far.”
“I could fight him.” Jamie said, “He’s just a coward.”
“A bloody strong one,” I told him, “he’s a black belt, you wouldn’t stand a chance.”
“You don’t know what I’m capable of,” he said trying to sound strong.
“He’s rich too, he could get anyone after you.”
“I can protect her,” he said.
“He is smarter than us all.”
“I can protect her.”
“No you can’t!” I exploded, “he is stronger, he is faster and he is smarter. You think this is a passing façade! He told me he has planning this since January got him sent down in the first place. You’ve been here for two seconds and you think you can take this on?” I shouted.
“What about you?” he shouted back, “you left her, you left her and he attacked her. He beat her because of you, he attacked because of you, he scarred her because of you. He raped her because of you.”
Then I swung for him.
