Chapter 7

Denari snuggled closer into the warm body that was beside her. The sunlight shone on her face through the curtains and she knew it was daylight but she wasn't ready to get up. She wasn't ready to leave the arms of the person who was beside her. As she was drifting deeper into her slumber, a loud knock was heard. She groaned as Malik shifted. She silently hoped that the person who was knocking would get the hint that she really wasn't interested in getting out of bed yet. But she was wrong because this time, the person knocked louder. Denari groaned as she finally got up out of bed and went to the door.

"Yes?" she asked annoyed. "I see I am interupting something" Tiara said with a smirk. "Oh stop it Tia" Denari blew her off as Tiara laughed. "Anyways, how is your ankle feeling?" she asked. "It still hurts but it just has a small bruise" Denari said. "Good. Anyways, breakfast is ready and tell lover boy over there that he needs to get up because the guys are needed" Tiara said. "Okay" Denari said before closing the door. She looked over at Malik who was still sleeping. She couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to wake up everyday like this. "Hey" Malik said as as rolled over.

"Good morning. Breakfast is ready and you're needed downstairs" Denari said. "Aite. I'mma just get myself ready and I guess I will see you downstairs?" Malik asked. "No, I'm going down with you" Denari said as she went to her suitcase and pulled out a nice little sundress. After they were done getting ready, they went downstairs. "Well, good morning sleepy heads" Ciara greeted. "Is that my pumpkin?" Kira said when she spotted Denari. "Aunty Kira, it's been such a long time" Denari greeted her aunt. "I know, I must admit that I missed having you around" Kira said. "I know but at least we're here now" Denari said. "Yes, indeed. So how's work and everything?" Kiara asked. "Work is fine and everything else is great too" Denari said.

"Awesome. Anyways, I have to go help your mother before she turns into some wild animal" Kira joked as Denari giggled. "What y'all over there giggling about?" Ciara asked. "Nothing CeCe" Kira said before getting up.

It was finally time for the party to begin and a lot of persons strated to come in. The whole time James had his eyes on Denari and also her friends. But his main interest was in Denari. He watched her like a hawk all evening but she never seemed to notice. However, Jazmine noticed how he wouldn't stop trailing Denari everywhere she went and she knew that sooner or later he might make his move and she didn't want that to happen. She carefully watched every move James made like a predator stalking its prey.

She never took her eyes off him and he didn't take his eyes off Denari. "Hey" Jayden said. "Hey" Jazmine said with her attention still focused on James. "What's wrong?" he asked noticing how focused she was on James. "Your uncle has been stalking Denari all evening and I am just making sure that she's okay" Jazmine replied. "I want to talk about us" Jayden said as Jazmine turned towards him. "What about us? Are you saying that you wanna end our relationship?" Jazmine asked. "No, of course not. I was just wondering if you told Denari" Jayden asked and Jazmine tensed. "No I haven't but I want to be the one who tells her and she doesn't need to know right now" Jazmine said before turning towards the spot where James once was.

"Shit" Jazmine cursed. "What is it?" Jayden asked. "I lost him" she said as she walked to where he first was. She searched for both Denari and James but she couldn't find either of them. Meanwhile, Denari was on her way to the kitchen when a hand grabbed her into the guest bathroom. "What the hell is wrong with you?" she spat. "What's wrong with you? Have you forgotten who I am? Don't fucking play with me Denari" James said. "Who says I am playing?" she said. "You have some nerve-" she cut him off. "Look, save your lectures for someone who is willing to listen to the shit you've got to say" she said as she walked out of the bathroom leaving James stunned.

After about 2 and a half hours, people started saying their goodbyes and heading home. As planned, they told Ciara, Richard, Kira and James to meet with them in the living room. "Now I know you guys must be wondering why we asked you to meet with us. Now, what is going to be said is a very tricky subject but I need all of you to be understanding okay?" Jazmine said as they nodded their heads in agreement. "Great. Denari, please step forward" Jazmine continued as James tensed. "Uhm, I have something to tell you guys. It's been really hard for me to tell you because I was afraid but, it is time you guys know before things get any worse. So four years ago, something happened to me which broke me and scarred me for life. I was raped and uhm, then I was sexually molested" Denari said as her voice cracked. "I prayed everyday that it would stop because I was hurting and and young and naive and I didn't know who to run to because I was afraid. But, I have decided to tell you this now because it's time that you guys knew the truth" Denari said.

"Who did it?" Ciara cried. Denari gulped because she knew from this point on, her family would be torn apart. "It was uncle James" Denari said as Kira looked shocked. "I'm sorry aunty, I didn't know how to tell you" Denari cried. "How could you? How could you touch my niece you pervert?!" Kira yelled. "Baby, she's lying" James said. "Really? Says the one who came and attacked her last night in her bedroom?" Jayden said. "He did what?" Richard asked angrily. "Yes, if Deshaun didn't come to her rescue, he would've raped or try to rape her again" Jayden said. "You sick fuck! Why would you do this to your niece? Why would you want to destroy her life?" Kira cried as Richard tried to console Ciara who was now crying hard.

"Baby, you have to believe me. I would never hurt her in any way" James lied. Denari couldn't take it anymore. She was tired of being the charity case and having everybody fight her battles for her. "Okay just cut the crap will you James. Don't stand there and lie to everybody. I would never tell such a lie like that and especially on family. That is a sensitive issue and only a fool would be foolish enough to joke about something like that. Plus, you're a sick bastard and oh, did you tell them that you said that you were going to kill me if anyone found out? Go ahead. Kill me but just know this, if anything happens to me, you will be first on the list as a suspect. So go ahead and try to cheat your way out of this because my life was ruined when you decided to tamper with it. Now, if you would excuse me, I have to get ready to go home" Denari said before she went back to her room to pack her stuff up.
