It had been officially 2 weeks since Denari had been going to work with Malik and today was her last day. She felt sad because she knew that she wasn't going to get to see him everyday and she was getting used to seeing him. She was on her way to work when her mother called. "Hey mommy" Denari answered. "Hey honey, as you know tomorrow we are having our family get together" Ciara said. "Okay and yes I do remember" she answered. "Yes so you can invite your friends and oh before I forget, your aunty Kira and your Uncle James are going to be coming as well" Ciara said. Suddenly, Denari felt a familiar feeling and it wasn't very pleasant.
"What? Are you serious?" Denari asked scared. "Yes, your aunty would like to see you because she hasn't seen you for about 3 years now" Ciara said. "Fine ma. Will they be staying at your house?" Denari asked. "Yes why?" Denari slightly bit her tongue. "No reason. I just wanted to know" Denari said. "Okay, we'll see you later then or are you coming tomorrow?" Ciara asked. "We're coming today" Denari said. "Okay good. Your father went to pick up your aunt and uncle so everything is ready for tomorrow" Ciara said. "Okay ma, I am on the road so I will talk to you later. Bye and love you" Denari said. "I love you too hun" Ciara said as she hung up.
Denari couldn't believe what she just heard. The man who she has been running away from for three years has finally caught up to her. When she reached to Gold Keystone Marketing, she ran straight up to Malik's office. "Hey, you good?" Malik asked as he noticed how flustered she looked. "No. Ma just told me that my uncle is coming to our family get together tomorrow and that he's staying at my parents' house" Denari said while on the verge of crying. "Don't worry okay, remember I told you that I will be there" Malik said trying to calm her. "Okay so here's what I need you to do. I want you to stay in my room just in case he gets any idea in his head" Denari suggested. "Won't your parents and your brother think that it's weird for me to be sleeping with you? Not that I mind" he said and Denari shot him a glance.
"I'm sorry, I'll do it but only for you" Malik said. And he meant what he said. "Thank you, thank you, thank you" she squealed as she hugged him tightly. "You're welcome" so what time do you want us to go?" he asked. "Well it takes about there hours from New York to Maryland so 2:00 p.m." she said. "Okay, are the others coming?" Malik asked. "Yeah, I just need to text them the time and that's it" Denari said. "Alright, well, I need to get back to work so if anything, you know where I am" Malik said as Denari nodded. "Oh and make sure you pack some extra clothes because we might have to stay longer than a day" Denari said before walking out of his office.
...........
It was finally time for Denari to leave and the whole gang was coming and she knew that it was going to be one hell of a day tomorrow. "Hey" Malik said as Denari hopped into his car. "Hey" she said. "You look nice" he complemented. "Thanks. You look nice as well" Denari said. "Thanks. So are they gonna meet us or what?" he asked. "We're gonna meet and Jayden's place" Denari said before Malik drove off. "I really hope that they are not going to be late because I already scheduled everything I have to do because I also have some stuff to get done and I was going to use the few hours I had to finish them off" Denari said.
"Why are you working so hard?" Malik asked. "Because if I don't work I will get fired and if I get fired, I won't be able to pay my bills. And if I don't pay my bills, then my life is over" Denari examined. "Whoa, calm down. I didn't mean it like that. I just think that you need a break that's all" he said. "Well, I wish I could too but my supervisor is so hard on me and she just makes me wanna quit" Denari said. "Well, you can always work for me or better yet, start your own practice" he said. "I am not a clinical psychologist so no but I don't mind working for companies and your company in particular is very nice. I mean, the people are nice and they understand me. Plus, I personally think psychology is good for marketing" Denari explained.
"I think so too. I mean, the company has got a lot more ratings in the two weeks that you were here versus when you weren't" Malik said. "So is that a job offer I hear?" Denari smirked. "Well, as I said before, I don't mind you working for me and you offer the good help to the company which is good" Malik said. "Thanks" Denari blushed. About 5 minutes later, they finally reached Jayden's house. "Oh you're here. Alright let's go" Tiara shouted as the rest of the gang came towards the cars. They then set off towards Maryland. 3 hours later, they were in Maryland and on their way to Denari and Jayden's parents' house.
"Oh, look at my babies!" Ciara exclaimed as she hugged Jayden and Denari. "Hi mommy" Denari smiled. "Hello baby" Ciara smiled as she continued hugging them. "Hey ma, where's pop?" Jayden asked. "He's inside. And oh, your aunt and uncle are here" Ciara said and Denari suddenly tensed. "Is something wrong dear?" Ciara asked. "Yeah, I am totally fine. I am just tired that's all" Denari explained. "Heyy" Richard greeted the group. "Hey pop" Jayden said as he hugged his father. "Hi daddy" Denari smiled as she hugged her father. "How have y'all been?" Richard asked. "We've been fine" Denari said.
Suddenly, a familiar face peered around the corner. Denari could feel her breath hitch as she felt an unwanted presence. "Hey guys" James said with a broad smile. He was still looking fresh and young but Denari wanted nothing to do with him. "Hey uncle" Jayden greeted. "Wassup son?" James greeted. "I am here" Jayden said. "Good. And Denari, how you've grown" James said. Denari felt disgusted as the memories replayed in her head. "Denari? Don't you hear your uncle talking to you?" Ciara asked. "Oh, I heard. I just don't have anything to say to him" Denari said as James' eyes grew wide. "What do you mean by that?" Ciara asked. "Ma, please let's not do this okay? I am really tired and I can't with all of this" Denari said as she felt the tears threatening to fall.
"Let me go talk to her" James said as he followed behind her. Denari went out to the backyard to blow off some steam when she heard footsteps. "What do you want?" Denari spat. "Is that the way you're gonna greet your uncle?" he asked. "You're nothing to me" Denari spat. "Oh really? You need to be careful you know Denari because I have a price over your head. So tread softly" he said as a tear escaped Denari's eye. "Fuck you" she spat. "It was nice wasn't it?" he asked with a smug look. "You're such an asshole" Denari hissed. "Well, it is what it is. Anyways, don't be getting any ideas in that little head of yours or else it will not end so well for you" he threatened.
"I strongly despise you and I hope you know and understand that I am not going to be your little bitch" she said. "But honey, you already are" he said with a smirk. She then slapped him as hard as she could. He looked at her with anger swirling in his eyes. Suddenly, Denari fell to the ground with her hand on her cheek. "Don't ever do that again" James said. Denari cried as her cheek stung from the pain. She then went inside and tried to avoid everybody as best as possible. "Hey where- what's wrong?" Malik asked as he came up to Denari. "It's nothing" she said. "Really? Remove your hand" he said.
"No" she protested. "Did I ask you a question or did I tell you to remove your hand?" Malik asked. Denari never saw this side of Malik before and especially with her. When she removed her hand, Malik suddenly became angry. "Did he do this to you?" he asked angrily as Denari shook her head. "I'm gonna kill that son of a bitch" Malik said as he walked out of their room which her mother showed to Malik. Denari begged him not to do anything but Malik was too furious to hear. He pounded on Jayden's door as he tried to calm himself down. "Yo bro what's wrong?" Jayden asked confused. "What's wrong is your uncle. I'm gonna kill that son of a bitch and I don't give a fuck if he is your uncle" Malik said.
"Slow dow, what did he do to you for you to kill him?" Jayden asked. Malik wasn't sure how Jayden would handle the news of his uncle sexually molesting his little sister. "Ask Denari" he said and with that he left him confused.
