One month later
It has been one month since Malik and Denari had been apart and it was hard for either of them to keep away from eachother. Denari tried her best to devote herself to her work even though she saw Malik everyday at work. She didn't know how to deal with this sort of pressure.
Meanwhile, Malik was getting ready for the proposal that was going to happen tonight. The plan was to get Denari to come without her knowing that he would be there. The proposal would be disguised as a regular girls night out but they will be going somewhere extremely expensive. It wasn't like they couldn't afford it but they just chose not to practice unhealthy habits like spending unnecessary money.
"Hey girl" Jazmine greeted Denari. "Hey" Denari replied. "So, we're having a girls night out at this luxury restaurant up east" Jazmine said. "Wow, what for?" she asked. "Come on, we can afford to go there so why not? Plus, we haven't done something like this in ages" she said. "That's because we are working people and you and the others are used to this lifestyle. I never grew up living like this" Denari said.
"Just say you'll come okay?" Jazmine pleaded. "Fine, I'll go just no funny business" she said. "Promise" Jazmine smiled. Denari hadn't been out in quite a while now and she was longing to go out and go into the spotlight. She wasn't a fan of the attention but she was going to have to face it now.
...
After Denari got ready, she stared into her mirror. She outlined every curve on the body and wondered if she really wanted to go through all this embarrassment. She finally came to her senses and decided that she needed this. Jazmine was coming to pick her up so she went down to the lobby to wait. A few minutes later, she arrived. "You ready?" she asked. "Yeah but where are the others?" Denari asked.
"Laila and Tiara are meeting us at the place" she said. "Okay, let's go" she said before the drove off. It took them about an hour to reach the destination. "Wow, the place is nice" Denari smiled. "Yes it is. Now let's get inside" Jazmine said. When Denari entered, she noticed how the place was decorated with royal blue decor which was her favourite colour and red roses covered the floor.
Jazmine then brought her up to the top floor where she noticed how dark it was. "Denari?" she heard a familiar voice call out to her. "Malik?" she said almost in a whisper. "What are you doing here?" she asked confused. "I just want to tell you something" he said. "What is that?" she asked. "Denari Ayana Harris, you have been a very special girl in my life. I fell in love with you from the very first time that I saw you and I want you to know that I love you and I never stopped loving you" be said.
"But you were the one who told me that we needed space" she said now crying. "I know baby girl but that was all so that I could have time to get you this" he said as he pulled out a diamond engagement ring. "No way" she cried as she marveled at the sight before her. "Will you marry me Denari?" Malik asked. "Yes, of course I will marry you" she said as placed the ring on her finger and they embraced eachother with a well deserved kiss.
"Yayyy" Laila cheered as Denari smiled towards her. Suddenly the lights switched in to reveal their friends, their parents and her aunt. "Aunty Kira!" Denari squealed as she embraced her aunt. "Hello my baby" Kiara smiled happily. "I am so happy that you're finally getting what you wanted" she smiled with tears threatening to fall. "I know aunty but I wouldn't have been getting everything I wanted if you weren't here" Denari smiled.
"I missed you so much" Kira said. "I missed you too Aunty" Denari smiled. "Let's get this party started" Tiara said before they all started dancing and enjoying themselves.
After about an hour later, the party died down and Malik and Denari were on their way back to his house. "That was quite a surprise" Denari said. "I'm glad you like it Mrs. Carter" Malik smiled before he kissed her hand. "Thank you so much Malik. And I am so sorry for the things I said to you" she apologized. "It's okay babe. I needed you to go so I could plan your dream proposal" he said.
"Awww, I love you so much" she smiled before she kissed him in the cheek. After they went in, they had a shower and then headed straight to bed. The next morning, they set out to meet the wedding planner who was Denari's and Jayden's cousin Tanya. "Hey cuz" she greeted Denari. "Hey TT" Denari smiled. "Hey my cousin to be" she said to Malik. "Hey wassup?" he greeted. "Nothing much. Just ready to get this show in the road" Tanya said.
After they discussed their plans for the wedding, Denari and Malik went back to his house. "I can't believe we are actually getting married" she said. "Yeah, I can't believe it either" he said. "Well, we've come all this way and I know I have shown that I love you" Malik said.
"I know that and I am so happy-" Denari was cut off by her phone ringing. "Hello?" she answered. "Girl guess what?" she heard Laila say on the other end. "What?" she asked. "I'm pregnant!" she squealed. "Oh my gosh are you for real?!" Denari asked excitedly. "Yes, I just found out this morning and I knew I had to tell you guys" Laila said. "Congratulations hun and I will personally be treating you tomorrow to celebrate" Denari said before they hung up.
"What was that?" Malik asked. "Laila is pregnant" Denari said. "That's awesome" he said. "Yeah, although it got me thinking" she said. "About?" he said. "What if we could start our own family? I mean after we sort ourselves out of course" she said. "Then why don't we start a family then?" he said. "Because, I won't be able to fit in my wedding dress and I can't have that Malik and you know that" she said.
"Look, I don't care about how you see yourself. All that matters to me is that you're happy" he smiled. "I know but, I know you don't want me to be working for you for the rest of my life and I certainly don't want that. I want to be able to have my own practice in a sense that I can call home and to be able to help people" she said. "Well, in that case, we'll figure it out" he said.
Hey guys. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Stay tuned.
