Chapter 22

It has been 3 days since the wedding and Tavon and Tiara were busy on their honeymoon in the Maldives. Laila and Deshaun were on a trip to Miami for Deshaun's birthday week and Jayden, Jaylah and Jazmine were having a family vacation in Spain. Meanwhile, Denari and Malik were both at work. They had been bombarded with so many things to do that they haven't gotten a chance to talk to eachother after the wedding.

It was so bad that they both were staying at their separate homes. Denari was busy editing a report when she got a WhatsApp call from Jazmine. "Hey" she greeted. "Wassup?" Denari said. "Are you at work right now?" Jazmine asked in disbelief. "Yeah, I am" she said. "Is Malik there with you?" she asked. "Yeah, he's in his office doing some paperwork" she said. "Y'all can't be serious right now" Jazmine said in disbelief.

"What?" Denari asked. "I can't believe you guys aren't even going on any dates or vacations but just sitting down in your offices" Jazmine said. "It's just that, I'm kind of not in the mood to talk right now because, I just want to know if we're ever going to be more than this. I mean, it has been 3 years now and we still haven't even moved in together yet" Denari said. "Look, y'all need to talk with eachother" Jazmine said.

Malik was busy in his office trying to find the perfect engagement ring for Denari. He wanted to propose to her with everyone present. Jayden and Jazmine weren't going to be back until the next week and he wanted her brother to be there. He picked up that she was longing to get married too but she had been trying to hide it from him.

Before he could continue looking, there was a knock on his door. "Come in" he said. He then saw a nervous Denari coming in. "Hey babe" he smiled. "Hey, we need to talk" she said. Malik suddenly started to tense. "What about?" he asked. "I don't want to do it here. Can we meet at my place or do you want me to come over?" she asked. "I guess you could come over" he said.

As planned, after work they met up at Malik's place. "So what's going on?" Malik asked. "I just think that we need a-" he cut her off. "Please don't say we need a break" he pleaded. "No, of course not. I was just saying that I think we need a vacation" she said. "Like where?" he asked. "I don't know just somewhere" she said.

"Okay, how about we go to D.C.?" he asked. "Really?" she asked. "Yep" he said. "Yes, yes, yes!" she squealed. "Okay, so pack your bags because on Friday we're going to Washington DC" he said as she squealed for joy. After she went home, she packed her bags for one week because they were also going to see their parents.

The next day, Denari put her bags in her car and drove over to Malik's house. "Hey" he smiled before he let her in. "You coming to stay with me now?" he said. "Yes, so that it will be easier for us to leave for DC" she said. "By the way, are we driving?" she asked. "Yes, and before you regret anything, your car can always stay here in my garage" he said. "Phew, that's a relief" she said as he smiled.

"I want to tell you something tho" she said. "What is it?" he asked. "I want us to move in together" she said. "Move in together?" he repeated. "Yes Malik, it's been 3 years now and I think it's time for us to make it official" she said. "I don't know about that yet. I would have to think about that first" he said. Denari couldn't believe what she was hearing.

"Right. I just knew that you would say something like this. I mean, no matter how hard I try to be closer to you it's like you're not getting the hint. I love you Malik, I really do. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and it's so hard for you to see that" she argued. "And you don't believe I love you?" Malik countered.

"I want to marry you Malik but it's obvious you don't feel the same way" she said. "Who said I was ready for marriage? Three fucking days after Tavon's and Tiara's wedding and you're already pressuring me into marrying you" he snapped. "I've wanted to spend my life with you Malik and no matter how hard I try to be considerate about your feelings, you haven't even thought about mine" she cried.

"I haven't thought about your feelings? I can't believe that you just said that. Honestly, I have loved you and been there for you and you now have the nerve to say this" he said. "Right, use my past against me because that's all you see" Denari said still crying. "You know what? I can't deal with this right now. I think we both need some time to cool down from whatever just happened" Malik said.

"Are you saying that we're breaking up?" she said in disbelief. "I guess that's what I'm saying" Malik said. "Well, goodbye Malik" Denari said with a heavy heart. That was not how she wanted this conversation to go. Malik on the other hand wasn't devastated. His plan was going well now that Denari was off his back he could plan the perfect surprise for her.

Although he didn't want to hurt her feelings, he had no other choice or she would ruin her surprise. His plan was to wait for at least a month to propose and it would give him the perfect amount of time.

At last, Friday came and Denari was far from happy. Ever since their "breakup", she was devastated. She missed Malik every single moment and she hated that she did. She never even told the girls about their breakup or even Jayden. Little did she know was that everyone was in on Malik's little secret.

Suddenly, Denari got a phone call from Malik. She was hesitant at first but decided to answer the call anyways. "Hello?" she answered. "I just called to say that the hotel we booked in DC is still available if you still want a vacation" he said. "Will you be going too?" she asked. "No I won't. I am working" he said. "Okay well why let a good hotel go to waste?" she said before she hung up.

Did she really want to go to the hotel in DC? Was she really going to go without him? She then quickly called him back. "H-" she cut him off. "I don't want to go to the hotel at least not without you. That was supposed to be our vacation and it's not so it won't belong to just one of us" she said and with that she hung up. When did she reach this stage in her life? She loved Malik and she knew that he loved her.

She pushed him away because of her own self pride and she didn't know how to get him back. What was she going to do?
