It was rare to get a quiet morning in the huge cabin, but there she was, blinking her hazel eyes awake as the first morning light crested over the mountains. The cool air trickled through the cracked window, the smell of fresh rain clinging to her nose. She breathed in deeply, savoring her favorite smell in the world. It had been a long summer, but the smell of fresh rain made the long wait worthwhile.

The white comforter blankets piled around her, and she felt the slim body of another hugging her from behind. The perfect, pianist fingers of Victor clung to her shirt, scrunching the material with desperation, even in his sleep. As quietly as she could, Addie rolled over in his arms, comforted by the slight snuffles he let out in his sleep. Even behind closed lids, she could see his eyes flicker back and forth, as if his mind was in a particularly interesting dream.

His brows were furrowed, so with sneaky hands, she brought a finger up to smooth it over. His face relaxed, and his arms pinned her closer to his frame. It was near seven in the morning, only getting light because of daylight savings, and surprisingly there was no hangover to deal with after the night before.

Vaguely, she remembered tumbling into the cabin, drunk on love and moonshine. Victor had been the first to claim her for the night, only giving her time to wash her face and change into pajamas before wrestling her into bed with gentle motions. The smell of smoke still clung to their hair, creating the perfect fall morning.

Addie decided to savor the peace and closed her eyes against the light, breathing in the scent of smoke, moss and berries that clung to Victor's skin. There was no sound from the floor below or the hallway, so she assumed the others were still in bed.

Just as she decided to drift back to sleep, there was a muffled grunt from the man next to her as he shifted over, jostling her body as he did so. She whined. Of course the moment she wanted to sleep in, he would wake up. Looking up at him with fogged over eyes, she met amber that burned with fire. She could tell he was hardly awake, still lost in the dream before surrendering to reality.

Soft lips pressed to her forehead. "Morning, sweetheart. What time is it?"

"Too early," she replied.

"You don't want to get up?"

"The only thing that can drag me out of this bed is the apocalypse."

He chuckled huskily. "You're lucky we're already in an apocalypse then."

"So that means we can stay in bed for a while?" she asked hopefully.

"Whatever my girl wants," he said and drug her closer, legs intertwining with her own. Her chest arupted with warmth, spreading all the way to her cheeks. She burrowed her face into his shoulder.

Snuggling back into his chest, she thought about what happened the night before. Between the miraculous back-to-life brother, and the many drinks that made the rounds, she was surprised they made it back to the house. She kind of expected them to sleep in various places by the lake, not like it would be the first time for her. But Owen had been sober the whole night, wrangling them into the truck like a bunch of unruly children. She'd make sure to give him an apology as soon as she could.
