I took a deep breath and inhaled in some of Baekhyun’s comforting scent. The scent that always made me feel so small and protected all those years, and it doesn’t fail to even at this moment. I bit my lip and pulled away from Baekhyun, looking up at his eyes and darting it at the table where Haru and Luna were already sitting and talking quietly between each other.
“How’s your first dinner with your kids, sound, Baekhyun?” I asked him with a smile.
Baekhyun returned it genuinely, “I’d love dinner.”
Once we got to the table and dove into the food that I made, time went by incredibly fast. To be frank, I’ve never seen Haru and Luna so happy to see someone, and to talk so eagerly. I didn’t fail to tell them that Baekhyun actually excelled higher than me back in high school, and that’s the number one guy to go to whenever they need help. He shot me a frown when they started bombarding him with questions, but with a few minutes to recall how to answer them, Haru and Luna drank everything he said to heart.
However, the subject of school changed when Haru cleared his throat and turned his attention back towards his father. “So, how did you and Mom meet?”
Baekhyun looked at me and smiled, “We actually met at our local indoor pool. Remember?”
“I’d prefer not to remember,” I retorted, recalling the memory of when I first changed my name from Hanako to Dara.
“Your mother was swimming in the pool with her personal trainer and big brother when I approached her, and ended up being her teammate when we played water basketball,” Baekhyun’s eyes started to light up and I grinned. “I can admit she was a horrible player, but it was still an amazing way of meeting her. I knew her big brother, Kyuhyun, but never knew her so then, I didn’t realize I’d ever see her again.”
“Turns out that she transferred into my school, and I happened to run into her the following day looking like a lost puppy,” he shot me a wink. “A cute lost puppy that I had plenty of classes with.”
“You never failed to make me feel like a freaking idiot,” I mumbled under my breath.
“Since that day when you offered to share some of your food with me, we’ve practically been inseparable!” Baekhyun bolstered. I let out a hearty laugh before he added. “I mainly stuck around because of her flawless cooking skills and how it managed to saint my endless appetite.”
“Fat ass then, fat ass now,” I joked. Baekhyun feigned hurt but we locked eyes and we both smiled, and laughed at the same time. I noticed how Haru and Luna both pulled their phones at the same time, and mentally sighed and wondered when the hell they grabbed those. However, I didn’t really care. I’ve never seen them so happy before, so I don’t want to upset them by taking their phones away.
Luna interjected once she put her phone down and asked, “How about your guys’ first date?”
“It was cold,” I answered almost immediately.
“And also the cutest possible thing ever!” Baekhyun added with a bright smile.
“What happened?”
“I took your mother to the best possible café at the time, before your Uncle Minseok was old enough to run his family’s café when he was still in school himself,” Baekhyun told them. “She was so cute that day.”
Haru and Luna laughed before Haru asked him, “Has Mom changed much since then?”
We locked eyes at the same time when he answered Haru, “She’s still the same; strong and beautiful. You two are lucky to have such a wonderful mother.”
