Trigger Warning - Violence, Abuse.
...

Three weeks later.

My phone rang. It was her again. I got up to shut the door.

"Hey." I whispered.

"Please just come back." She sobbed.

"Woah. Ana, calm down. What happened?"

Her words slurred so much it was impossible to tell what she was saying.

"Ana, baby, I can't understand you." I leaned on my desk.

"I- I went h-home and- and they're here." She cried.

Who's they?

Where is here?

Is home where you live, or is home where the people who sent you away live?

So many questions, yet I didn't have time to ask any of them.

I saw red. I felt nothing.

One word repeated over and over in my mind. Danger.

The next few minutes passed in a blur.

Somehow I made it out of the house without being noticed. Somehow I drove to Ana's place without hitting anything.

Somehow.

There was only one car in the driveway, I didn't recognize it.

Unless someone had gotten a new car in the last three weeks, Ana was supposed to be home alone.

I opened the door slowly, quietly.

I could hear her yelling at the person to stop. I walked in the direction of her voice. I heard a man and a loud noise.

The man was banging on the bathroom door. He was yelling at her and threatening her.

I slowly grabbed my gun. My father wasn't there for most of my life, but he did teach me one thing that I'll never forget.

Stay calm Rosa. They always will see you as a threat if you stay calm, and always be quiet. Sneak up on them.

"How about you back away from the door." I yelled so he could hear me, but I was careful to keep my voice even.

"Now who the fuck-." He froze as soon as he saw me.

Maybe it was the fact that I looked like a Sanchez. Maybe it was because I was aiming a gun at his ugly face.

He looked like he was about to piss himself. He put his hands up in surrender. "Okay, let's just stay calm for a minute." His voice shook. He stepped away from the door slowly.

"I'm perfectly calm." I moved towards it, careful to not take my aim off him.

We moved almost in sync as he moved away from me and I moved towards the bathroom.
