I thought Ana was gone when I woke up but she had just moved.

I was curled up around one of her legs and she was playing with my hair.

It felt like I had been asleep forever.

I groaned lightly and looked up.

"Morning." Ana smiled at me.

"How long was I asleep for?" I mumbled.

"About seventeen hours." She grinned. "You were so exhausted you didn't even talk once."

I sat up. "Seventeen? You let me sleep for seventeen hours?"

She frowned. "I would've let you sleep longer, don't be so upset."

I wanted to be mad at her but I couldn't be.

I glanced at the clock. 10:45 pm.

"Why are you awake?" I narrowed my eyes at her.

Her eyes went wide. "No reason." She blurted out.

I smirked. "So we're lying now? What do you have to hide anyway?"

She looked down. "Nothing. I was just... reading."

"Reading? About what?" I raised an eyebrow.

She didn't answer me, her face was bright red. Then it dawned on me. "Oh." I smiled.

Her eyes snapped towards me. "Oh?"

"Let me see." I smiled and reached towards her phone.

"No!" She ripped it away from me.

"So it's worse than I thought." I chuckled. "In a family home too?"

"Oh hush, you act like I didn't hear Mariana and her boyfriend this afternoon." She rolled her eyes.

"Mariana has a boyfriend?" I tried to distract her.

"Yes, and he moans louder than she does." She groaned.

I grabbed her phone while she wasn't paying attention. She gasped. "How dare you!"

I grabbed both of her wrists with one of my hands and used the other to go through her phone.

I skimmed over the words and couldn't help but smile. "I would apologize for restraining you but given what I'm reading it would appear you like that."

Her jaw dropped. "Did you really just say that?"

"Did you really just read this with my head basically in between your legs? Should've just woken me up." I skimmed through more of the 'book.'

She looked a little too stunned to speak. "Where is the plot in this thing anyway?" I attempted to calm her down. Her heart was racing.

"Plots are boring." She managed to say.

I shifted on the bed and pulled Ana onto my lap so she was straddling me. "Are they?"

So much for calming her down.

I brushed my fingers along her cheek. She nodded slightly.

Then the whispers from the back of my mind surfaced again.

Monster.

I ripped my hand away from Ana's face. I didn't want to, I was almost reflexive.

Do you relish throwing away your life?

"Stop," I muttered.

"What?" Ana looked at me. She thought she had done something wrong.

I shook my head. "They won't go away." Tears started to form in my eyes.

"What won't?" She pulled my chin up so I was looking at her. The tears made her blurry.

"Voices," I mumbled. Every emotion I hid or bottled up boiled to the surface. A sob escaped my lips.

Ana tried to pull away from me but my hands flew to her shoulders and didn't let her move.

I could see that she was speaking but I didn't understand it, it was like I was underwater.

I leaned against her as I tried to compose myself. Father's words played through my mind.

Don't let them see what you feel Rosa, that makes you weak.

If you must let the little things hurt you don't show it.

Ana shook me violently by my shoulders. "Stop it!" She cried.

She cupped my face in her hands and wiped away my tears.

This was my job. I was supposed to be the one comforting her.

"I don't know what the fuck is happening in your brain right now, but please just take one second and breathe."

I did as she said. Her eyes studied my face, it probably looked strange to her.

I tried to stay stoic, especially around her, now I was a sobbing mess.

"Okay, these voices what are they saying?"

"The truth." I tried to lean into her but she pulled my face back.

"Look, I really do not like being stern, and you don't like being vulnerable, so for this to go smoothly, I need you to stop lying to me." She pulled my chin up so I was looking at her.

I sniffled. "I'm a monster."

"You're not." She snapped.

"I am. It doesn't matter how many times you say I'm not. I know I am one."

She rolled her eyes. "I bet these thoughts say you deserve to die alone too?"

I narrowed my eyes at her. "Not that exactly. Besides, you don't love me, you just think you do."

She scoffed. "You're delusional. I know you want me to run away, I know you think you're ruining me, but I'm not going anywhere and you actually make me a better person because I love you."

"Prove it. Prove that you love me and it's not just some fantasy version of me in your head." I pushed her off of my lap and grabbed a tissue.

After a moment of silence, I looked at her. She appeared to be deep in thought.

Then all of a sudden her eyes snapped to me, I jumped a little at the speed. "You love me and you'd do anything for me?" She raised her eyebrows.

"Yes, why?" I started to walk back over to the bed.

"Marry me." She said flatly.

I froze where I stood. She must've misunderstood why. "I know what you come with, I know you're not perfect, but marry me anyway."

My eyes went wide with horror. "Do you really mean that?"

She nodded eagerly and a smile crept onto her face.

I stared at her for a moment as her smile grew. Each moment it became harder to speak.

"No." I deadpanned.

Her smile dropped. "What do you mean?"

"I mean no, I'll never marry you, Ana. I love you, but I'll never marry you." I backed up until I found the door.

I saw the tears forming in her eyes and I left before they could fall.

...
I'm back.
