Mom exits the train car we're in to go find dad. A few minutes after, River comes out of another train car into the one I'm in and takes a seat by me. "Hey." He says in an uneasy voice.
"Hey. I'm sorry for what happened at the reaping." It's the only words I can think of to say to him. River and I are both the same age and he's slightly taller than me. He has fluffy brown hair and grey seam eyes. We only talked a few times at school, but that's about it.
"Oh yeah. Thanks I guess. So I was gonna ask, what do you think our stylists are going to do with us for the tribute parade. I mean, it would have to be something good since you know, your in the games this year." "Probably something to do with fire." I forgot that everyone in the Capitol is so excited I'm in the games. "What we do need to do is be better than all the other tributes so we can get the most sponsors."
"Yeah definitely." He hesitates. "I was wondering if you want to be allies? I feel like we could teach each other a few things."
"Sure." I guess it would be smart but he looks defenseless. "Do you know how to use any weapons?"
"Well not exactly. I could stab someone with a knife if it came down to it, but I'm strong, I know a lot of edible plants and fruits and I know how to put on a show." He winks and strikes a pose which makes us both laugh.
"I can teach how to use spears. They're not that hard to use. They're also easy to throw."
"Okay. I think we'll make a pretty solid team Mellark." We sit in silence for a long time. Probably for an hour or so. Then River rushes to a window. "Willow come look at this!" He says. So I get up and look out a window as well.
"Woah!" I say. It's the only words I can form. I never realized how beautiful the Capitol was. A few minutes after looking at all the beautiful architecture, out the windows we look down to see Capitol citizens going crazy. They're cheering, screaming, and yelling, "They're here!" The train comes to a stop behind 11 other trains. We arrived last since district twelve is the furthest away from the Capitol.
One by one tributes exit the trains with their mentors until it's only our train left. Peacekeepers escort us to the doors on the train. Before we exit mom lowers and whispers to us, "Don't look at them, smile at them, or anything. Just keep your eyes forward and go into the building." So that's exactly what we all do, besides Hannelore who's drastically waving and smiling at cameras like she's the star of the show. Once we're in the building the doors slam shut behind us. Peacekeepers guide us to the elevator. They open it and lead us in. When we're in the elevator it scans all our faces and goes up. It opens and there's 6 people at the door waiting for us. "We're your prep teams!" One says. My prep team leads me into a room and River's leads him into another. The room is very plain unlike most rooms in the Tribute Building.
"My name is Ciri I'm so delighted to apart of your prep team!"
"I'm Sequin nice to meet you!"
"I am Alexora I'm pleasured to be assisting you!"
Ciri has blue hair that is in a curly bob, Sequin has purple hair that's super long and goes to her knees, And Alexora has very bright orange hair that sticks up tall. That's how I tell them apart.
They give me a blue hospital gown and I change into it. Then I have to lay flat on the table. I feel naked because the only thing I have on is the blue gown and that's it. The first thing they do is put wax on my legs. It burns when they put it on. The next thing I know it Ciri strips the hardened wax off my leg which hurts so bad. "Ow!" I yell.
"Sorry it's part of the process!" Ciri says. She waxes my whole body one part at a time each strip hurting even worse. Once they're finally done waxing me they wash my face very well with a ton of soaps.
They then instruct me to take a shower so I do. When I get out they brush and blow dry my hair. Then Sequin does my nails. She paints them red and puts a mixture of orange and yellow sparkles on them. When my nails are drying, brush my teeth with a thing called teeth whitener. The last thing they do is my make up. They give me a blend of red, orange, and yellow eye shadow. Then they give me loads of eyeliner. After that they put fake lashes on my eyelids. The last things they do is foundation my face and put clear gloss on my lips. They all prance out of the room. A few minutes go by and someone comes in. It's a tall woman with blonde, curly, natural hair in a regular pink dress and white flats. "Hello Sage Mellark. I am Aneen your stylist."
"Oh so you're here to make me look like a whole different person." I say. I know it's petty but she works for the Capitol I don't need pay her any respect.
"No, I'm here to help you get sponsors which will help you win, but to do that you need to trust me." I don't say anything mainly because I don't know what to say. "Do you trust me?" She asks.
"You work for the Capitol and are a stylist for the Hunger games which makes it even worse. So no, I don't trust you."
"I'm not like them. I don't even want to be a stylist for the games, I never have. Henry saw how phenomenal my outfits were back in district one so he forced me into the Capitol to be a stylist. He said he would kill me if I didn't accept the offer. So I'm here."

Sorry this was sorta long!!!
