"Ok, Tate," Her brother said, placing a hand on her shoulder as he turned to look at her. The pair were currently hidden behind a wooden barrel, watching as Snyder escorted the governor to his carriage. "Are you ready?"
After weeks of planning their escape, they finally figured out the one missing step. Teddy Roosevelt's visit to the children's prison gave them their chance to get out undetected. Now all they had to do was not get caught, by anyone.
The younger girl could feel her hands shaking from her nerves. Not trusting her voice enough, she merely nodded to the boy with a small hum.
Jack nodded back, glancing over his shoulder and seeing that the horse drawn carriage was making its way towards the gate. "Alright, let's go."
Keeping to the shadows, the Kelly siblings followed the carriage along, the nerves bubbling away in their chest, and only paused when their wsp ace vehicle stopped by the currently closed gate.
"Wait here," The sixteen year old whispered to his sister before he snuck out of the shadows, his head snapping around to avoid being caught.
It wasn't long after he left that he managed to sneak his way up onto the cargo bay of the carriage, hesitating a moment before he quickly waved his sister over.
Taking a deep breath, Tatum followed her brother's actions, letting the shadows fall from around her as she rushed over to where the carriage was. She wasn't as lucky as her brother, however, when the vehicle started moving.
Her eyes widened as her coverage rolled away, leaving her in the open courtyard and a clear view of the guards by the gate. She could see Jack panicking as he flagged her down, his attempts seeming desperate. And it just wasn't her luck as she hit a lose patch of gravel and went skidding to the ground.
The guards' heads snapped towards her. "Hey, you there!" The one hollered, rushing over as he left the other to close the gate behind the governor's carriage. "Where do you think you're going?"
That was the last she saw of her brother; his worried face turning the corner as the guards swarmed around her.

The young Kelly girl woke with a gasp as she sat up in her bunk. Her hair was a disheveled mess and her head snapped around the room, observing the familiar view of a couple dozen kids sleeping in their beds.
Sighing, she ran a hand down her face, feeling her dry skin under her calloused fingertips. It was just a dream, she thought. Just a memory...
It's been three months since Jack had left, but their failed attempt at freedom was a constant occurrence that plagued her dreams. She didn't have them for a while, seeing as she didn't get much sleep being in one of the more secured rooms. And even after she was returned back to the group rooms, she was always waking up from that same dream. That same nightmare.
"You alright, T?" A meek voice said from the bunk beside her, causing the girl to turn her head. A pair of big, brown eyes stared back at her in complete innocence that she couldn't help but smile gently at the boy.
"Yeah," She said with a nod. "I'm alright, Carver."
"You kept saying his name, y'know."
Tatum couldn't help but furrow her brows at the boy. "Who's?"
"Your brother's. Jack's."
Hearing his name aloud caused the smile to slowly fall from the girl's face. Letting out a shaky breath, she simply nodded to Carver. "Get some sleep, kid. I'm sorry for keeping you up."
The little boy, only the age of nine, smiled at the older girl. "It's ok." With that, he rolled over so his back was facing Tatum and snuggled his thin pillow to his chest, effectively falling asleep moments later.
Knowing that she wouldn't be getting back to sleep anytime soon, the Kelly girl slipped out of her bed, careful of the squeaking floorboards as she made her way over to the window. The cool air refreshed her as she slid it open, resting her head against the metal bars.
As she did so, she could feel the metal...bend? No, it didn't bend, but it surely did move. Standing back up straight, the girl put slight pressure on the rails, seeing as the bottom corner lifted slightly away from the cement it was attached to.
Her eyes widened in amazement at her discovery before they shrunk back down to her normal size and a knowing smirk came to her face.
That's it, she thought. Freedom.
