Chapter 9

‘How would he be as a husband?’ she thought to herself after some while. He was at the moment driving the carriage since her driver was currently in Trent’s carriage. Everything was silent for a while in the carriage, eerie silent in fact; all she could hear was the huffs of the horses as they went along and the noise of the wheels connecting with the dirt road.

“Are you well,” Miss. Steele said worried after a while of silence.

Madeline was never the quiet kind of girl, she would always fin this and that to talk about. Riding with Madeline was never boring because of that same reason, her chirpy attitude and flamboyant mood made things more comfortable and easier to deal with long journeys.

“I am just a little bit shaken up, that’s all. Are you okay?” Madeline said remembering how they had treated her back them.

“I am fine, maybe a little bruised but other than that I am perfectly fine,” Miss. Steele replied with a warm smile, trying to make things better.

“Thank you,” Madeline said honestly and meaning it with all her heart.

“You have absolutely nothing to thank me for,” she responded lightly laughing and brushing it away feeling uncomfortable.

“Yes, I do.”
