Chapter 17

Trent walked with sure strides to the garden where he had last seen Madeline standing when he came into her house. He had looked out the window from Lord Woods’s window in his office to make sure she was still there before he left. He walked faster, his strides sure and long. He couldn’t wait to tell her what he thought, his mind had been changed but then again it just really assured what he had thought before he had even stepped foot into Lord Woods office.

Whether he should leave her or be with her was to be considered. One would heart but the other would be the right thing to do. He knew that the best was to stay away, move along with his life and forget her, forget all the wonderful memories they shared, the passionate kisses, the warm hugs, the intimate talks and inevitable love they shared.

He loved her but there were things between them that would without a doubt keep them apart. Things that could prove to be stronger than them together, then their strong and heart pounding love.

Finally he reached her. He just looked at her for a second. He looked at what he could have; the life they could have shared. The happiness they could have had being together but sadly could not.

They had laid a cloth on the ground so they wouldn’t ruin their pretty dresses while they sat in the garden. She and her companion were both sitting there, her companion reading to Madeline while she picked little flowers from the ground surrounding her.

He continued to walk, closing in on her − his true love.

As Trent approached them Madeline looked up and saw the turmoil lurking in him, her eyes lost a little of their shine.

“Hello, I sorry I didn’t introduce myself before, I am Trent Clayton. Who may you be my lady,” he said smiling to Madeline’s companion.

“I am Madeline’s cousin, Cassandra Abernathy,” Cassandra said with a smile.

Madeline noticed the brief stall he was making, but she also didn’t want their relationship to come to an end. She knew what his response would be and she didn’t want to hear it just yet, she wanted to have be with him just a little bit longer, only then would she be able to let him go.

It would hurt to see him in balls surrounded by other woman, seeing dance and flirt with beautiful woman that demanded his attention. It would hurt most if he started courting someone that would be too much for her, it would be the end of her. Seeing him looking down at his love with the same love and affection with which he looked at her now, with the same charming and sexy grin of his.
