TW on this chapter, please stay safe <3

It had been 5 weeks since he'd gotten to the Butterfly estate and Y/N's was finally healed- he also recieved his new swords by a very angry Haganezuka, who was about to strangle the boy, until he heard that Y/N was going to become a Hashira after his recovery. The exercises and medicine both really helped, without that treatment, it would've taken over 2 months to heal. The boy in question? He was overjoyed when Shinobu finally told him he's fine. And then he wasn't as overjoyed when the rehabilitation training was mentioned. It made sense why he was woken up very early, but he really wanted to defenestrate himself. (fancy word to throw something/someone out a window for anyone who doesn't know btw <3) When he was lead to the familiar training room he'd spent hours in about a year ago, he wanted to run away. Yes, all his friends were there, waiting for him and yes, they were only there to give him a harder time. The boy sighed as he walked over to the Love pillar, already knowing what was waiting for his limbs. It wasn't as bad as it would have been if Kanroji had not been stretching the living hell out of him while he was still injured, but she definitely went hard on him this time. He really felt like screaming for the most part, but he kept a straight face on during the whole time. When she did ask him if he was hurting though, his voice did crack as he said a meek "Yes." It kind of made Shinobu giggle, making the (h/c)ette acknowledge the fact that at, one point in his life, she would bring it up again. She always brought up embarrassing things when given the chance. Giyuu and Muichiro also seemed pretty amused by the state the boy was in. They knew full well he was trying his hardest not to scream out in pain and that was the funniest part about it.

When Mitsuri was done with the stretches, Y/N already felt exhausted and in need to call it quits, mainly because he was also in no mood to proceed with the next exercise. The next 'game' was tag, and guess who decided to be the runner? Of course it was fucking Muichiro. Even if the Mist pillar usually had a blank face, this time he was smirking- and smugly at that. It made Y/N want to punch him all over again, for being such a dick. The two took their positions about 2 feet away from eachother and the first out of the three rounds started. And no, Y/N didn't win; he very much failed miserably. When it came to the young pillar, the gap between them always felt so far and yet so close. It was always like, ever since the one month before Final Selection, he was actually managing to catch up to the long-haired boy. When he passed the Selection and got ranked Kinoe right off the bad, it made that fact even more clear, but the gap never seemed to close from that point and on. The injury even made the said gap even larger, it made Y/N question if he even deserve the Kinoe rank with how useless he was deemed. The second round started, the (h/c)ette did do better in catching up, but even those efforts were to no avail- Muichiro was simply too fast. Not like Y/N was not, but he was having a harder time catching up in running than he used to- it made sense. The third round was very close from the start, however. The round was about to finish, but Y/N managed to get the Hashira close to a wall. When he went to get away, the boy leapt onto the wall and back at Muichiro, tackling him to the ground. The mint-eyed boy was stunned- he just stayed there with the older boy on top of him, replaying the whole situation in his head. Hearing Y/N's voice made the younger snap out of his daze, though. "You're.. it.." The (h/c)ette said weakly, letting his face fall flat against the other's chest, despite panting heavily. "Should we give him a break?" Shinobu finally asked, also stunned, along with the other 3 bystanders. "Yeah, I think he needs it." The Water pillar agreed, watching the two boys as laid still on the floor.

After the painfully short break Y/N was given to catch his breath, along with a rare praise from the Mist pillar, he was feeling ready to partake in the last 'game'; the teacup reflex training. He was up against Giyuu at first, but if he did well enough, he would go against Shinobu. The moment the game started, however, Y/N got splashed instantly. He did manage to close his eyes before the medicine landed in his face. "At least your eyes have a good response time." A familiar bored voice rang through Y/N's ears and of course it wasn't the one belonging to his aniki- it was Muichiro's. Y/N didn't know why, but the pillar seemed either be feeling playful today, or he was going back to how he used to be during their time training together. Either way, it was annoying. Y/N tried to sweep kick his legs, but the younger jumped over. "Maybe try enhancing your own reflexes before testing mine." The long-haired bit said and walked away. "Can we try again?" He redirected his attention to the Water pillar, who simply nodded and got ready. In the end, both of them were soaked, but Y/N did manage to win by 2 extra cups spilled on the ravenette. Shinobu was very much having the time of her life watching the Water Hashira get splashed by the odd-smelling water. The small, happy moment of Y/N's victory was quickly overshadowed upon, when he went up against Shinobu- who, by the end of it, was completely dry. Meanwhile, the boy had been splashed over 20 times by the Insect pillar alone. Y/N did know that the short girl was the fastest Hashira, but this was just impossible. He ended up feeling very sad by the end of training. When Shinobu announced it had been enough for today, he just left the training grounds and went to bathe and sleep, not sparing the others a glance.
