prompt i used:

Imagine James is a merperson and is discovered by Adam. James, having never been to the surface world is asking Adam about all the strange things they see and Adam having to explain it all to them. (Bonus: James tries to take off Adam's shirt or pants to see how they work/what it is.)

I stroll along the beach, humming to myself quietly. An evening stroll on the beach is always nice. It never fails to clear my head.

The sand between my toes, the waves crashing delicately onto the shore and the moon's reflection on the flowing waters. It's like magic.

As I'm walking I start hearing a louder splash. I look around, trying to find the source of the splashing, but can't see anything. There're no children around, nor any boats.

I keep walking but the splashing gets louder.

"H-hello?" I call out into the night. After a few moments I hear a faint response. I jog in the direction of the splashing. I reach a large rock on the shore. As soon as I get there the splashing stops.

I stand next to the rock, listening for a moment. Right when I'm about to turn around and head back I hear light panting. "Is anyone there?" I ask.

"Y-yes! Please, help me!" The voice startles me. It almost sounds like bubbles. Which sounds absurd. I turn to the rock where the voice came from.

I slowly walk around it. I stop when I tail comes into view. It appears as a sharks tail but... more sparkly and... feathery? I peek around the corner of the rock to see a person.

He locks eyes with me, "Please, help me!"

I cautiously step out from behind the rock, looking over this person. "Please, sir! My tail got caught!" My eyes glance down to the sharks tail. It's tangled with some seaweed in the shallow water.

I look back to the person, who looks like he's struggling to breathe as time goes by. "Please! I'm begging you!"

I take a few steps forward and crouch down in front of the tail, analysing it. The end of the tail splits into two and feathers out at the tip. Tiny scales run up the whole tail, light bouncing off them. It's a beautiful aqua colour, fading from a deeper shade to a lighter one at the end.

The panting gets heavier. I look up at his distressed face. "Why don't you... take it off?" I suggest.

"Take it off? Are you crazy? Please, just get me off of it!" I stare at him in disbelief. "Please!" He cries again. I jump and turn back to the tail.

I carefully reach out towards the tail and touch it lightly. Chills are immediately sent up my spine. I reach a second hand to the part of the tail that's stuck and untangle it. I undo the knot and left the tail up.

The second it's off the seaweed, the person falls backwards, disappearing into the sea. I stand up in a panic, watching the water, intently. I spot the person's shadow before they suddenly break the surface of the water.

He smiles brightly, laughing in joy for a moment, before turning to me. "Thank you so much!" His voice sounds a little less strange than before but still has the weird bubbly sound.

"You're... welcome?" He smiles widely at me. "Sorry but uh... Why couldn't you untie your... tail... yourself?" He holds up his hands. I squint at them for a moment before realising they're webbed. Each finger, webbed like a duck with a light blue colour to them.
