James' Birthday Stream

This is that big stinky thing I scrapped from James' birthday. It's worse than I remember. 

"I'm just looking at the chat and everyone's saying 'Call Jaiden!' So like..." I glance to my right where James' stream is set up.

He starts reaching across his desk, "I don't wanna bother her. She might be doing something..."

I watch the chat as a new request comes through, "Now they want you to call Adam." I chuckle and turn to the stream.

James' expression suddenly shifts. Is he nervous? He already comes off as nervous when he streams but he seems bothered by something.

"You good?" James nods and turns back to his Breloom drawing.

Huh. Weird.

James finishes the stream and now it's just James, (merch guy) Paul and I.

"Well this was fun guys. Talk soon." Paul says goodbye and leaves the call.

"Cool. Okay, Maaz, I'm gonna g-"

"James you seemed extra nervous at one point. Everything okay?"

The call goes silent and all I can hear in my headphones is constant buzzing.

"Uh... what do you mean?"

"When I mentioned the chat asking you to call Jaiden or Adam I think. You looked super nervous. What's up?"
James stutters a few times before he takes a deep breath, "Okay, I'll tell you but... you gotta keep it a secret."

I hum and wait for him to continue.

"So I'm uh... I'm... d-dating Adam?"

"Oh my gosh. Really??" A smile spreads across my face, "That's awesome!!"

This is so cool. I always low-key hoped they'd get together, which sounds weird but hey it's not my fault they're so perfect for each other.
"Why were you nervous though?"
"I-I dunno..."

"Look, I'm gonna go James. But that's amazing news! I promise I won't tell anyone. Bye!"

James says goodbye and I leave the call. Before I get back to work I should congratulate Adam. I pick up my phone and press call on his number.

"Hey Maaz. What's up?"

"Dude, congrats!" Adam's quiet for a moment, "On... what?"

"James told me. You don't have to keep it a secret anymore!"

My smile fades as Adam continues to sound completely puzzled, "Huh? What on earth are you talking about?"

Something's not right here...

"James? He told me that you guys... were... dating?"

Instead of a proper response I head Adam coughing.

"Adam?? You all good??" The coughing slows and Adam splutters, "Dating?! The hell!?"

"I dunno man! That's what he told me!"

Did James lie? Or is Adam lying? And whoever is lying, why?

"One of you is lying. I don't understand why."

"I'm not lying Maaz. You know I have Tinder. If I was dating James I'd be loyal to him. He's too precious to be hurt."

I scoff and mumble, "Gee, you do sound like his boyfriend..."

"Yeah? Well I'm not. So just... shush it, would you?" I sigh and rub my temples.

"Well, why did James lie?" "I dunno. I'm just tryin' to play animal crossing here. I don't care about this new drama you're trying to stir up."

"Dram- what? I'm not making this up, Adam. Wait, I'm gonna join a discord call with James. Can you jump in too?"

"Fine. Whatever I have to do to prove this is just your unnecessary made-up drama."

Ignoring Adams comment, I ask James to hop into the call.
"Hi again, Maaz."
"Hey. So I was wondering... how long have you and Adam been dating?"
"What?
I notice Adam has joined the call.

"Well, you said you and Adam were dating so how long?"

"Um... like- f-five months?"
"Uh huh. And what do you like about Adam?"

I continue asking questions, hoping he hasn't noticed Adam in the call.
"Well h-he... he's always there for me... and he feels like my second half. He's also adorable-"
"AHA! SEE ADAM!? I TOLD YOU!!" I smile triumphantly.
"James? What the heck?"

Adam and I wait for a response from James.
...
"O-oh... um-"
"James why did you lie??"
