National Intelligence Service, Seoul, South Korea...
The moment I entered the button, a beeping sound penetrated the profound silence of my cabin, causing a frown to form on my forehead. Did I go wrong again? But the LCD screen clearly displayed: SYSTEM HACKED SUCCESSFULLY.
I checked once again.Surely, the program I had typed was able to hack the Highly Confidential Documents of the NIS. But what's the beeping sound for? Breaking my chain of thoughts, the beeping sound repeated itself. That's when I realised that it's source was not my MSI GS66 hacking PC, but my pager.
I hurriedly picked it up and entered the preset 5-digit code. The screen went blank and after 10 seconds a shorthand message flashed up.
RPRT OFC IMM KNJ.
Report to office immediately -K Namjoon.
Grabbing the pager I rushed out of my cabin. As I made my way towards Mr. Namjoon's office, I felt my heartbeat rising at an alarming rate. Even though it's been only a year since I joined the NIS, I know enough to imagine urgency of the situation which may have caused my pager to beep two times in the last ten minutes.
As I turned round the corner, the shiny polished, steel entrance of Mr. Namjoon's office came into my view. Even after having entered through this doorway more than a hundred times, I still can't help feeling that I'm entering a giant's mouth. A giant which holds some of the dark secrets of the country.
The guard handed me a cotton swab. "You know the drill ma'am", he said.
I put the swab under my tongue and once it was wet enough, I inserted it through a hole in the DNA-scanning machine. Within a couple of seconds, my picture and ID flashed up on the screen.
" It seems as if you're still you", the guard said, as the door slid open.
Passing through the brightly lit corridor, I halted in front of the cabin over which a signboard hung,
Mr. Kim Namjoon, Deputy Director, National Intelligence Service.
I knocked on the cold metal door, though I guess it wasn't colder than my hands. "Come in", a deep voice answered, which kept reverberating through the corridor for sometime. I pushed open the door and entered to see Mr. Namjoon talking to someone while back facing me. As the door closed behind me, he turned around and said, " Good morning, Y/N. You will be glad to know that there's an important mission awaiting for you. And let me tell you, this time it's something other than detecting loopholes in our system! "
I furrowed my eyebrows as I didn't follow what he was at.
"But Sir, isn't it my job to find out how our system can be hacked to prevent others from doing so? In fact I just hacked the latest confidential documents. They aren't safe, we need a more advanced system to prevent them from being hacked".Not paying attention to what I said, Mr. Namjoon continued, "We'll talk about that later Y/N.We have a serious problem knocking at our doors which needs to be resolved". His expression became somewhat grim. " I want you to help Taehyung at his mission ", he said locking eyes with mine.
The person who was standing behind him all this while, aka Mr. Kim Taehyung, the most proficient undercover agent of the NIS, nodded his head in approval.
" I'm afraid I still don't follow you. How am I supposed to help Taehyung in his mission? I don't even-"
"Don't worry Y/N, I'm not sending you as Taehyung's backup fighter or something. But the role you're going to play isn't any less important", he said brushing his hair back, something he did only when he was severely disturbed.
And what's that something?..
