richietozier: Bev, I need to talk to you. It's urgent

Bev: What is it, Richie? and if it's a mum joke istg-

richietozier: No it's not that, it's something I heard

Bev: A rumour?

richietozier: No, it's something someone who I really care about said

Bev: Who?

richietozier: Eddie

Bev: You care about him?

richietozier: Ofc I do, but that's not the point rn

Bev: Richie. What did he say?

richietozier: Ok so Eddie was really late to English class so I decided I should go look for him, I couldn't find him so I went to the bathrooms to look. I was at the door and I heard Bowers screaming at him, he was attacking Eddie. I was about to go in but then I heard Eddie say that being gay is a sin, that it's a crime to like boys...

Bev: Oh my god Richie that's horrible, why the hell would Eddie say that. He seemed so nice

richietozier: I thought he was nice too, I thought he was different. I thought maybe he would accept me for who I was but to him, I'm just a sinner!

Bev: Richie I need you to calm down, I know you're upset but you don't know the full story

richieotzier: I heard him Bev! I heard it with my own ears!

Bev: Richie meet me at the quarry and we can talk about it there, k?

richietozier: fine, I'll be there in 5

10 minutes later

Richie arrived at the quarry, seeing Bev sitting down against a rock, she waved at him as he approached. Wiping his tears from after their conversation, he sat down beside her. Bev looked at him with pity, she felt bad for the boy. She knew that he liked Eddie more than a friend, deep down somewhere in his heart. He was just too scared to admit it to anyone, especially Eddie.
"Richie I know it seems bad but maybe you got it wrong, he could've just said it to shut Henry up," Bev shrugged, exhaling a puff of smoke, taking the cigarette away from her lips.
"I heard Henry, all he said was 'So your not a fag?" and then Eddie said... well you know".
Richie was silent, he felt tears threatening to come pouring out again and his voice cracked. He felt bevs hand squeeze his own. He leaned against her shoulder, sobbing and choking on tears. It was like Eddie had played a cruel game on him, he acted innocent and caring but really he didn't care. Bev felt really bad, she had never seen Richie cry in all their years of being best friends. He's really broken, someone actually got to him and broke down the walls Richie had built around his emotions and covered with sarcastic jokes. Bev held Richie close, trying to calm him down by rubbing circles on his back, but he kept crying. Letting his emotions show for once, a whole layer of him had been shattered by the new boy and sure as heck Bev wouldn't let Eddie get away with his. She wanted to know the truth behind his cruel words, and possibly beat him up. Only for Richie of course, Bev wasn't necessarily violent but when it comes to her friends she'd protect them at all costs. Finally, Richie stopped crying, he sniffed leaning off of Bev's shoulder. He wiped the tears from his eyes and sighed, taking Bev's cigarette from her hand and inhaling the smoke slowly. He chuckled to himself thinking about Eddie, what would he say if he knew Richie smoked? Eddie wasn't one to break rules. Richie thought about how Eddie would go on a rant and for once, Richie would listen. He would listen to every word the angry little asthmatic would say.
"You thinking about Eddie?" Bev asked, smiling at her friend.
Richie smiled lightly, shrugging and exhaling slowly. He hated Eddie for what he said, but at the same time still wanted to see him. Still wanted to see his red shorts, the fanny pack he wore around school and his pills and inhalers held within it. Richie didn't know why, maybe he liked Eddie. He wasn't sure, maybe it was just his attachment issues, once he becomes friends with someone he becomes reliant on them. Like Bev, he would have no idea what to do without her.
"I think I'm gonna go now, I have homework to finish off. Thank you, Bev",
"No problem Rich".
The two hugged and Richie hopped back onto his bike, riding away down the street. His thoughts were still on Eddie, but every time he thought something good Eddie's words cut through him like a knife. 'Sin!' 'Crime!'. It made him sick to think about those words but he didn't know what to do. If he avoided Eddie it would kill him, the boy has no idea Richie heard, he wouldn't know why Richie is mad at him, but perhaps he'd get over it. I mean Eddie would easily find new friends right? Richie decided to text Eddie, he had to see him. He was going to ask him about what he said. Because maybe Bev was right, what if he didn't know the full story and Eddie wasn't a homophobic shit.
