Richie had invited Eddie to various activities for a couple of weeks. Every day he would make sure Eddie felt safe, he barely ever left Eddie's side until he went back to Bev's.
The two sat under the sun, looking up at the sky. They had just been swimming in the quarry and were half passed out, cooking like fish. Richie was the only one who really talked, Eddie would occasionally answer a question, but usually, he just nodded or shook his head.
"I should be heading home Rich", Eddie said, sitting up and putting his damp shirt back on.
Richie agreed as the sun had started to set. Derry was too dangerous at night, especially if it was Richie and Eddie hanging out alone. Bowers would definitely make an appearance, and Richie didn't need Eddie getting hurt anymore than he already was.
"I'll walk you home Ed's",
"Don't call me that..." Eddie whispered, getting on his bike as Richie chuckled to himself. Knowing Eddie secretly liked the nickname, or at least he used to.
"Ok, sorry Eddie". Richie sighed, looking down at his feet. He got onto his bike, cycling behind Eddie as he pedalled to Beverly's house.
The redhead was sitting outside on the porch step, smoking a cigarette as she saw the two boys approaching.
Bev felt bad for Richie ever since the two broke up. She knew how hard it was on him, but no matter what Richie refused to leave Eddie's side. Honestly, nobody knew how Eddie felt, he was so different than before. He was quiet, he didn't show emotions, he was like a robot.
"One Eddie Kaspbrak for a Miss Beverly Marsh", Richie spoke in a cockney voice.
Beverly rolled her eyes, helping Eddie off his bike, Eddie walked inside without saying goodbye to Richie.
Bev went over to Richie, talking to the raven-haired boy. She was worried about him, it was like he was trying to cure himself, trying to fill an empty hole in his heart.
"How are you, Richie?" Bev asked, looking up at her best friend.
Richie sighed, "How do you think I am? My boyfriend got taken to conversion therapy and broke up with me because he's too scared to date me. He's traumatised and emotionless, I just want him to smile again Bev!" Richie shouted, tears filling his eyes.
"Shh, shh. It's gonna be ok Richie, he'll come back to you... I promise..." Bev whispered, hugging Richie.
Eddie watched, listening to the two friends from the open window of the house. He had heard what Richie said, he didn't realise how broken he was. Eddie couldn't help it, he just couldn't be there. He couldn't smile, he just couldn't remember how it feels.
He wanted to smile for Richie.
"I should get going Bev, Cya tomorrow!" Richie said, waving goodbye as he jumped onto his bike, arriving back at Stan's. Throwing his bike onto the ground, and went to his room where he lay on his bed until he heard a notification from his phone.
