1. Pain Is Part of Life

Clary's POV
We just finished with the funeral for, Caspian and I've never seen my daughter so broken. She loved him with all her heart and she has the biggest heart I have ever seen. We're all trying to be there for Adley as best as possible but it's just so hard to see her go through this.

We all stay at the door of the funeral room while Adley just stays at the front. We all also look at her with a sigh.

"Guys, how are we going to help her through this?" Simon asks us

"We'll give her as much space as she needs. She'll come to us when she's ready." Jace suggests "Yeah, I agree with that." I tell him

"It hurts me to see her like this." Izzy says and we see Josh come to us.

"Hey, how's she doing?" He asks us "Not good" I tell him "Do you think she'll want to talk to me?" He's always been so caring of her.

"Maybe just give her some space and let her come to you." Jace suggests to him and he nods with looking at him.

"I kind of hate to say this but it's true. Caspian was really great for her and to her. He helped her through so much." Josh admits

"He did, I wish I gave the guy more credit for helping her. She's always been strong but I think she got even stronger when she was with him." Alec admits and he's not wrong.

"She was also always so happy with him. He truly brought out the best in her. They brought out the best in each other." I mention and Jace wraps his arm around me. Adley comes up to us but she doesn't look at any of us.

"I think I'm just going to go to my room. Get some sleep" She tells us and we all just let her go up to her room.

"She couldn't even look at us." I tell everyone and rest my head on Jace's shoulder and he puts his arm around me tight.

When we get back to the Institute I walk by Adley's room and I hear soft music playing which normally means she's drawing or painting. Izzy comes in front of me and we look at each other.

"She's really trying to escape right now isn't she?" Izzy asks me "Yeah, she is" I tell her, lightly and Alec comes up to us.

"Hey, we have a mission right now." He informs us, as always. He looks at Adley's door and says quietly. "We'll just let her stay back and leave her some time for herself. She needs that right now."

"Yeah, I'll go tell her." I let them know "Ok, we'll grab the gear." Izzy informs me and they go get everything and I quietly open Adley's door with a knock. She notices and looks at me but barely.

"Hey, there's a mission right now but we'll let you stay home alone ok. You need the rest" I tell her and she hugs me quickly out of nowhere. I hug her back tight and rub her back.

"Be safe and thank you, I think I'll probably be a bit distracted during the mission. So yeah, I'll stay back." Adley agrees and I rub my hand on her cheek and I can feel that she's been crying. It breaks my heart because I never want to see my daughter cry.

"We will and everything's going to be ok. It just takes some time to get through this. We're also all here for you when you need us ok." I remind her and she lightly smiles with a nod. I can tell she really doesn't want to be smiling right now.

"I know and I truly appreciate that." Adley replies and I kiss her forehead lightly. I hope that didn't remind her of when Caspian did that because he always would. It was so adorable too, they were adorable together.

"Ok, we'll be back, I promise." I hope I can keep that promise. She smiles with a nod and let's me go for the mission. When I get my gear and everyone looks at me worried I lightly smile back at them.

"She'll be ok you guys. It's Adley, she's strong remember." I relax them and Jace comes beside me and holds my hand. We leave for the mission and the whole time I just think of Adley.

Adley's really struggling through this loss. Her family is in agony seeing her like this. Send love to Adley❤️
