Caspian's POV
When Adley and I get down there and Alec is there guarding, it's hard to look at my mom. Adley grabs my hand and puts her other hand on my face and rubs it.
"Hey, you can do this." She encourages me and I smile at her. "I can, with you" I tell her and hold her hand tighter. We walk up to my mom and I look at Alec and he nods at me, than I look at my mom and she smiles.
"Hello again my son, I actually wanted to talk to you alone." Mom tells me "Adley's not going anywhere" I tell her and Adley smiles at her but my mom looks at her angry.
"Aren't you two adorable? Fine, son you have a choice. Join me again or stay with the Lightwoods and Herondale's and a warlock." My mom says and I can tell that pissed Adley off.
"Don't talk about her family like that. They are better than you'll ever be as family. They've welcomed me with open arms, you have never done that. Also Magnus isn't just a warlock, he's a really nice guy. Apologize to Adley now" I demand to my mother and Adley looks at her with her arms crossed. My mom just laughs
"Oh how cute, no I said the truth. I don't take back what's true. Magnus Bane is just a warlock and nothing more. Also Adley, do you mind if I borrow him too? You know why" My mom asks her and Adley starts to walk up to her but I grab her hands.
"You touch him and I will kill you! No one gets to just use my uncle Magnus! He's more than just a warlock like Caspian said. He's kind, caring and loving. Something's you don't know the meaning of or have the heart for. Leave my uncle alone" That is one of the many things I love about Adley. Her fierce loyalty to her family.
"You're a feisty one aren't ya cutie!" My mom jokes with her.
"Stop talking to her mom. Why can't you just be a normal mom for once? What if all I needed in life was actually to have a mom that cares for me. Just like Adley has with her mom Clary." Oops, I didn't mean for that to come out. Anger got in the way.
"Awe, my poor precious baby. Clearly all you do is complain and whine. That is why I left you, you were too weak and useless. You couldn't even kill Adley and her family when you had the chance. Yes I know about how you two met, I've been watching. Now you're stronger and useful. I can easily need you now." I can't believe she just said that about me.
"Don't talk about him like that!" Adley yells at her and I pull her beside me. "I got this" I tell her while looking into her beautiful, strong eyes.
"You don't get to treat me like that. You don't know who I am anymore. You're the useless one and you always will be. You're a coward who left for power. I'm the stronger one" I stand up to my mom and Adley looks at me proudly which makes me feel even better.
"You can go to hell Caspian if you don't choose me. You'll regret this" Mom warns me
"I'm good, I have all the family I need right here. Nice talking to you stranger." I leave with Adley's hand still in mine and I'm starting to realize all the things my own mother just said to me. I know I acted strong but I can't now. When Adley and I get into the hallway near the main centre of the institute I just cry instantly and Adley holds me tight and I rest my head on her shoulder as she rubs my back.
"Hey, it's ok, you're an amazing guy. All those things she said it was just her reflecting off of the things she's done. It has nothing to do with you. I promise, hey Cas look at me." Adley helps me and grabs my face and wipes my tears as I face her. "You're the strongest person I know and a badass shadowhunter. You can do more than you'll ever know because I believe in you ok."
"I'm so lucky to have you." I tell her as I catch my breath. "I'm even luckier to have you." Adley tells me and I just put my arms around her quick because I want to be in her embrace again longer. My mom is just able to dig at a soft spot that she knows all to well.
"I probably shouldn't see her again. This is the second time she's made me feel weak. I can't have that in my life. I can do this, with you." I tell Adley and myself and start to feel better as I say that. Adley has this big and cute smile on her face that I love so much.
"I love you" Adley tells me as she rubs my cheeks. "I love you too" I say back and she kisses me and I kiss her back. Adley is all I need. I'm at home with her.
