5. Dark Times

Clary's POV
Jace, Alec, Simon, Izzy, Magnus, Josh and I are having a family meeting without Adley to figure out how to help her through this dark time in her life.

"Does anyone else find this uncomfortable to see Adley like this because she isn't herself anymore?" Simon questions

"Yes" We all say "How are you two feeling with her?" Alec asks Jace and I.

"Well let's just say Alec that this is a way to feel as though you failed at protecting your own child." Jace surprisingly reveals to him and me. I look at him shocked and hold his hand and whisper.

"You didn't tell me that that's how you were feeling about this. How come?" "I was worried you were feeling the same way and I didn't want to have to worry you about that more." Jace explains and I link my arm around his.

"Jace you can tell me anything ok." I remind him and he nods his head.

"Do you feel that way too?" He asks me "Not exactly just that I feel like I let her down in some way." I admit to him and he kisses my forehead and wraps his arm around my shoulders.

"Ok, so Josh what is she like when she's with you? You're her best friend so she has an easier time revealing her true thoughts to you." Alec asks him and we look at him beside me.

"Quiet and just not herself. Normally we can talk about anything but I mainly talk and she just listens. I mean she's good at doing that but it's still just different." Josh explains and Rafael walks in and goes next to Simon and Izzy.

"Hey guys, woah what's with all the sad faces?" Rafael asks us "Is it about Adley and Caspian? How is she doing?"

"She lost her first love, so not good Rafael. What are you doing here?" Izzy asks him

"Came to see how you guys were doing with everything going on." Rafael says "Well thank you, we appreciate that." Izzy hugs him and Simon looks down.

"She's your wife, relax" I mouth to him and he nods his head at me.

"Hey Simon" Rafael says "Hey Rafael" He says back and we see Adley coming back from training.

"Rafael hi, what are you doing here?" Adley asks him as they hug. "Just came to say hi." He says and Adley looks at all of us confused.

"What's going on?" She asks us and Jace and I look at each other. "Nothing just talking" I tell her

"Ok well I'm going to shower now, nice to see you again Rafael." Adley kindly tells him "You too kiddo" He says and she goes up to shower and Rafael sighs.

"Wow, I could feel her being tense and upset. Do you guys feel that too?" He asks us

"Yeah, all the time" I tell him

"Ok we really need to figure out how to help her guys. Focus" Magnus says and we all get back into focus. "I could take her to Paris. She's always wanted to go there." We all look at him with a... 'Are you kidding?' look. "Right, most romantic place on earth probably not a good idea sorry." Magnus apologizes

"How about we get her to help out other Shadowhunters in training? I know she's still in training herself but everyone knows she's the best in her class. She could help make other people better. That always cheers her up." Izzy suggests

"Actually yeah, that's true. When Brea trains with Adley, Adley lights up every time because she loves seeing her grow and achieve. Also she could help out my class that I'm training." Alec offers

"Ok, that's a great idea. She is a good teacher and maybe it will give her some distraction. Thank you guys" I tell them and we all go back to what we were doing but Simon comes up to me.

"Seriously Clary, how are you doing?" Simon checks "Honestly, I'm worried, I just don't know why someone would want to do this to her and Caspian. This is just honestly a nightmare that I want to wake up from." I tell him and he hugs me and I hug him tight. "Me too Clary, me too."

The family is missing their happy Adley. Will this plan work or fail? ❤️
