Adley's POV
"So, how's your family been doing?" Caspian asks me and I want to say pissed at you but I won't.
"They're good, busy but we try to spend time together as much as possible." I explain to him
"You guys are so close. I mean I guess when you fight demons together you have to get along." Caspian points out
"Yeah, I couldn't imagine life if we didn't get along. My life would not be the same if we didn't." I reply and he smiles.
"Just so you know, if you have a point in time where you have to make a decision between me or your family... I totally understand if you would choose your family." Why is he asking this?
"Good and why would you bring that up exactly?" I ask him "Just for future problems" I smile at him and we eat awkwardly now.
Speaking of my family I see them sitting in the corner hiding in their menu's. It's just dad, uncle Alec and uncle Simon.
"Excuse me for a second." I tell Caspian and he lets me go and I quietly go over there. "Hmhm" I start with and they put their menu's down.
"Hey Adley, great restaurant uh. What a coincidence..." I don't even let uncle Simon finish that.
"Oh please uncle Simon, guys I appreciate this and I'm a way it's very sweet but it also means that you don't trust me to handle this on my own." I stand up for myself.
"We trust you Adley" Dad tells me "Yeah 100%, it's just him we don't trust." Uncle Alec chimes in and I roll my eyes.
"Look, I don't fully trust him either anymore but I'm giving him a chance and you should too." I give them an annoyed look and fold my arms.
"Ooh, she's serious, ok Adley. We'll go" Uncle Simon says and dad and uncle Alec stay while uncle Simon is standing beside me. "Guys c'mon"
"You go ahead Simon, we're good here." Dad tells him "Yeah and do you mind telling Magnus that I'll be home late?" Uncle Alec asks him
"Leave now" I finalize it and they look at each other in shock. "Oooh, looks like someone's getting annoyed. Jace we better go" Thank you uncle Alec
"Alright fine we'll leave" Dad finally caves in and as they walk past Caspian they stop and lean against the table. "Don't hurt her" Dad warns him
"I promise I won't do it again sir." Caspian promises dad
"I'm a vampire so I can rip you apart if you do." Uncle Simon threatens him and dad and uncle Alec laugh. "What! I could" Uncle Simon leaves upset and now it's uncle Alec's turn.
"If you hurt Adley, my bow will go right into your throat. Got that kid" Uncle Alec joins in and they leave so I sit back down.
"I am so sorry about them." I can't blame them though to be honest.
"It's ok, I love that about them. Feels like a true family when they do that for you." Caspian says to me and I smile at that.
We've finished desert and we decided to walk around New York for a bit.
"How's your art going?" Caspian asks me, he's so sweet. "Haven't had much time lately. Been training a lot lately. I need to get back into it but normally when I'm in my room I'm just catching up on sleep. Anyways, what have you been doing? Are you still working on your stunt tricks?" I ask him
"Trying, something keeps blocking my head." I have a feeling that when he said that he's talking about me. When I draw it's him that I'm drawing.
"Maybe you need to take a break for a while. Focus on control?" Caspian suggests "Actually that might work, thank you." "You're welcome"
"So where do we go from here now? With us?" Caspian comes out of nowhere with. "Slow, taking it slow" I remind him "Ok, thought I should ask." "Thank you for asking" That was very sweet of him to ask.
After an awkward walk we get back to the institute and my whole family is of course at the main area.
"I should probably get some sleep. Night Adley" Caspian ends the night with. "Ok, night Caspian, thank you for this." I tell him "You're welcome and thank you." He says back "You're welcome" He goes to him room and I walk up to my family and just put my elbows on the table and put my hands on my face.
"Errrgg" I tell myself "What happened?" Mom asks me
"It was just so awkward. Like the awkward where you punching yourself inside for because you don't know what to say. Also thanks by the way." I look at the boys and they smile at me.
"What did they do?" Aunt Izzy asks me "Oh, you didn't know? They came to the date and questioned Caspian and me." I tell mom and aunt Izzy and they look at them pissed.
"You told us you were getting some supplies." Mom says in a pissed of tone and I look at them annoyed with my arms crossed again.
"Oh c'mon, you really think we were going to let him be alone with Adley. Hell no" Dad tells mom and aunt Izzy, mom and I look at each other and roll our eyes.
"You guys Adley is plenty capable of taking care of herself on her own." Mom stands up for me and I give them a look.
"Thank you, that's what I told them." I tell her
"C'mon guys, we're talking about a girl who's fought of demons at a young age." Aunt Izzy brings back and I nod in agreement.
"We just have her best interest at heart though. That's all" Uncle Alec says
"We all do but we also need to get her to do things on her own sometimes." Mom tells them off
"Guys seriously I can do this on my own. If I ever need help I will go to you. I have never had a problem with that. Just trust me on that please." I try and calm myself and uncle Magnus walks in.
"Hey what's going on?" He asks this "You're husband and these two were spying in on my date with Caspian." I tell him and he looks at uncle Alec.
"Thanks Adley" Uncle Alec smiles at uncle Magnus and uncle Magnus looks at me. "I would've gone with them." He reveals and I look at him shocked. "Sorry Adley, you're my little bug. Can't let anything happen to you."
"Unbelievable, you guys are unbelievable sometimes." I walk away and mom and aunt Izzy come with me.
"Clary you're mad at me to!" We hear dad say "Yes! Trust her Jace!" Mom shouts back and we all go to my room.
"I can't believe they don't get this." I tell them and mom and aunt Izzy sit with me on my bed and put their arms around me.
"They will Ad's, it just takes some time to gain that trust back for Caspian's side. Just have patience" Aunt Izzy helps me
"Yeah honey, they know you can handle things your own, I think they know but just show them more. Aunt Izzy and I know you're capable. They still look at you as their little Adley. I mean we do too but not the same way they do." Mom explains
"I hope they realize it soon." I tell them and we hug longer.
