Nerves flutter in my chest.

I grip his hand, my palms sweaty and clammy. It has come. Finally, today is the day. Today is the day that I graduate university.

I can barely believe it. I still remember my first day of freshman year. I was still stuck in my shell at that time, and I wore a skirt with a turtleneck with the thickest pair of stockings. Eliza was beyond mortified when she saw what I was wearing, claiming that we had to dress to impress, and that hopefully, there would be a few hot seniors who we could seduce.

"Are you alright?" Kaden's voice pulls me from my thoughts and I look up at him, smiling tightly.

"No. I'm so nervous that I think I might wet myself." I say and he squeezes my hand.

"Don't worry. Everything will be okay." he reassures me and I nod, even though his words do nothing to calm my nerves.

"I'm going to look for Eliza. You'll be okay here alone, right?" I ask and he nods, smiling down at me. I squeeze his hand once more before letting go and walking away.

Eliza’s late, and that's a rare occasion. Usually, she's here before me. However, when I round the corner to a secluded space behind the toilets, I get my answer, a gasp escaping my lips.

There stood Eliza, her back pressed up against the wall as a man runs his hand underneath her cloak, their lips locked.

The moment they hear my gasp, they rip away from one another, and when I see who the man is, my eyes nearly pop out of their sockets.

Professor Lively.

He looks horrified as he stares at me, his clothes as much a mess as his hair. Eliza, however, is smiling, looking quite satisfied. They share one glance before he rushes past me.

"What the hell was that?" I question.

She smiles. "Isn't it obvious?"

"You owe me a story." I say.

"There's nothing much to tell. We got closer when we were working on the essay competition together and things just happened." she explains with a shrug, but I'm mortified.

My best friend, is seeing our professor.

"I know what you're thinking right now, but it isn't really that bad. Besides, as of today, he's no longer our professor so we can date." she says.

Date. She and our professor, well, our ex-professor. I feel like slapping myself, a huge part of me not convinced that I'm not dreaming right now.

"Aren't you happy for me?" Eliza questions, her eyes narrowing at me.

Am I happy for her? Of course I am. She finally got together with the person she's been pining after for four years. But, it's just a lot to take in. Graduating has hardly sunken in yet, and so how am I supposed to react to something like this?

"Of course I'm happy for you." I say, opening my arms up for her. A smile immediately appears on her face and she rushes over to me, falling into my arms.

"Thank you, Rose." she murmurs into my neck.

"Anytime," I laugh. "Now, shall we go graduate now?"

She nods.

Our graduation wasn't as long as I originally thought it would be. The moment special guests gave a speech and our diplomas were handed out, the ceremony was over and all the graduates could stay to take pictures or just leave.

"Rosie!" I hear a familiar voice yell out, and when my eyes meet his, I run to him, my diploma in hand as I fall into his awaiting arms. "Congratulations. You did so well."
