It was finally May. School was a drag since we had to take so many tests before school got out. But, fortunately, today was Friday, the last day of assesments, tests and quizzes. God, i couldn't WAIT untill next the next three weeks of rest, eating in class, watching movies, picnic at the park, and basically just having fun.
Unfortunately, Nick and i had broke up. It wasn't anything bad like cheating on eachother or anything, it was just that it felt...akward. It wasn't after a while, but then it started getting awkward. So, Nick and i kinda got the same idea and broke up. I still miss him as a boyfriend, but i like it better now that we're just friends.
"YASSSSSSS!!!!!!!" I heard Mitch exclaim as he ran towards my locker. "NO MORE ASSESSMENTS OR TESTS OR QUIZZES!!!! YAAASSSSS!!!" He yelled loudly. I felt embarrassed, but i was laughing. Then, everybody started cheering as the bell rang and they ran out of thier classes. Yup, no more tests, quizzes or assessments this year! I was at my locker early since my teacher just let my class go early. And i was happy for that since i had to hurry to the park with my gang so we could do our usual after school running there because track was too boring.
"You ready?" I asked my friends who were crowded by my locker. "Yes!!! And today, i swear that I'm gonna kick your ass!" Mitch said with an evil look. "In your dreams buster!" I retorted. "Alright, lets get off of school grounds before you two beat eachother up!" Will said as we started walking towards the exit.
We got to the park no more than 10 minutes later. Usually it only took us 5 minutes (the park is literally right next to the school) but there was an accident and it backed up traffic. So, we ended up waiting at the crosswalk for about 5 minutes untill we could finally go. "God! That took soooo long!" Cassie exclaimed, in an exaggerated tone. "God! That took soooo long!" Nick said, mocking Cassie's voice. "Oh shut up!" Cassie exclaimed, smacking Nick on the shoulder.
After that, we went to the park bathrooms and changed into our running gear. Cassie was wearing the usual, Adidas black spandex-like sweatpants that hugged her legs and went down to her shins with a bright blue Adidas t-shirt. Cassie was OBSESSED with Adidas. So obsessed, that she made me get a pair of Adidas black shorts and a purple Adidas t-shirt. She wanted me to get pink, but i hated pink. So i got purple instead. Cassie was wearing black Nike shoes with a white tread and neon green laces. Me, on the other hand, i saw these super cute grey Nike with a rainbow colored x on the back of the shoe and rainbow clolored tread that turned into white tread in the front. It had the white Nike sign on the side with neon green stripes also on the side and black shoelaces. I loved them. And they were SUPER comfy to run in too.
Whereas, the guys wore ALL Nike. And the same exact running clothes. Mitch, Nick and Will were all wearing tight black Nike t-shirts with neon Nike green and black shorts, and blue Nike tennis shoes. Geez, they really WERE like brothers! They all liked to call each other brothers and Cassie and i sisters. Oh well, that's how we were.
The five of us walked to our regular path that we ran on and started stretching and warming up. The path was a dirt/grass trail that led through a forest for about a quarter of a mile, then opened up into a meadow and circled back around a pond to enter another part of the forest, then over a creek,(which we had to jump over because there was no bridge) and then back to our starting place. The whole trail pretty much added up to two miles. Thank god the five of us had practiced for a whole two months on this trail before we decided to set up a race which was today. In the beginning, it was only cassie and i that could jog the whole trail without stopping, but then the guys got better and soon got close to beating us. But they never did, because they still couldn't sprint the whole trail. One day, about two weeks before today, Mitch had gotten ahead of everyone but me, and we were only jogging, but when we circled around, Mitch started sprinting. So, i sped up to when i matched his speed and after we jumped the creek, i lunged ahead and got ahead of him, leaving him in the dust. He had tried, and failed. Today, the five of us was going to sprint the whole trail. Well, at least, attempt to. But Cassie and i had worked out a plan.
The guys were onviously going to start out fast, since we tried this a week ago, and they started out fast at a full-out sprint and ended up last because they tierd out. So, when they do that, Casssie and i are going to keep them in our sight, but we would only be doing a slow sprint. Then, when they start tiring out (at the pond), we speed up to where we are matching our pace with theirs causing them to speed up and tire out even more. Then, when we reach the creek, we give it all we got and full-out sprint to the finish. Oh, we were gonna CRUSH them!!!
When we finished warming up and stretching, we did a quick meeting. Girls together and guys together. "Alright Sequoia, you ready to kick some butt?" Cassie asked. "Oh yeah! You bet I'm ready!!" I answered enthusiastically. "Alright, remember our plan." Cassie said. Then, we put our arms together and yelled: "GIRLS RULE! BOYS DROOL!" And lined up at the finish line. The guys did the same, except saying: "BOYS RULE! GIRLS DROOL!" It was funny that they had the same idea as us.
We lined up at the starting line and Will set his phone to do the starting horn. His phone beeped times then, RIIIINNNNNGGGGG!!! I launched myself ahead, but not in a sprint, in a slow jog. Then, when Cassie and i were right next to eachother, we picked up the pace to a slow sprint. We were both right. The guys were way ahead of us, but they were going 100%. That is thier HUGE mistake. Cassie and i stayed behind the guys but kept them in our sight as we ran through the forest. It was a sunny and hot day, so when we ran in the forest, i felt immediate releif as Cassie and i stettled into a comfortable pace. Soon, we were out of the forest and into the meadow. The guys were slowing a bit, but we still had some catching up to do. I felt my breath getting a little labored because of the heat, but i forced myself to shove it out of my mind. It was the least of my worries right now. Then, the pond came into view and Cassie and i immediately sped up. The guys were now tiring and were going at a slow sprint. Cassie and i caught up to them right when we went around the pond. As Cassie and i predicted, the guys started speeding up as soon as they saw us, but were breathing hard. I was running next to Mitch just to rub it in his face. Then we entered the forest again and i felt better under the thick canopy. I moved back to Cassie's side and we ran together. It was Mitch, Cassie and i in the front and Nick and Will in the back. They were never really the best runners. Well, for distance.
Then, the creek came up ahead, and Cassie and i started sprinting in unison, gaining speed as we got closer to the creek. Mitch stayed by my side, but i knew that he wanted me to speed up, but i didn't give him the satisfaction of doing so. He was breathing hard, but Cassie's and my breath was light. Then, Cassie and i lunged ahead of Mitch and jumped the creek. We then gave it all we got. We went 100% and was slowly leaving distance between us and Mitch.
Soon, we had the guys waaayyyy behind us. When we looked back, we didn't even see them. Cassie and i were still sprinting and then the finish line came up. I then ran faster, and used every ounce of energy i had left to pull myself ahead of Cassie. She did the same, and we were head to head. When the finish line was only a couple feet ahead, i lunged forward again, and when Cassie did the same, she failed to get ahead of me. Then, i crossed the finish line, with Cassie in a close second.
Cassie and i waited, sipping our water and stretching for about 10 minutes untill the guys finally came into view. Will was first,Mitch second, and Nick close behind him. Nick started speeding up and passed Mitch, leaving Mitch last. Nick and Will were head to head, Mitch a couple inches behind. When there was about 5 feet between the guys and the finish line, Mitch sped up and got ahead of Will and Nick. Mitch won. With a tie between Nick and Will.
"Shut up. Just, shut up." Mitch said, responding to my grinning face. "What? I didn't say anything!" I said, laughing.
After that, the five of us decided to go to my house to shower, change, and go out to Zio's Italian Restaurant. The guys were paying.
