Akaza left late that night, after taking his fill of blood from Kyojuro. He left wordlessly, demeanour suddenly turned cold for some reason. However on the bright side Rengoku was happy that he could at least save some lives while recovering since Akaza wouldn't be eating humans as long as the demon was drinking his blood.

Kyojuro felt a little empty though. But who cares? It's not like Akaza was anything special to him anyways; their bond was strictly symbiotic... or so he told himself.

'Whatever... I'll just to for a walk to clear my mind' Kyojuro told himself while looking out of his window, staring at the stars that dotted the sky. Rengoku placed his hand over his bleeding shoulder and limped out of bed, using his walking stick to support himself while hobbling out of his door.

He walked slowly down the quiet and desolate halls and eventually into the butterfly garden, the moon's watery glow giving a refreshing feeling to Rengoku's skin. The pillar sat down on the wooden decking and calmed his breathing, watching as his hot breath came out as steam in the crisp air.

He sighed and waited for nothing in particular, just simply being at peace with himself which came as a harder task than anticipated. Kyojuro stretched out his arms and took off his leather eyepatch, revealing his eye to the gentle moon. It was more comfortable without it on, however he kept it anyways to prevent scaring others because it was indeed not a very nice sight.

Kyojuro wondered where Akaza had run off to in such a hurry. But then again, he mentally beat himself up about constantly thinking of the demon.

Rengoku pushed himself to a stand using his walking stick, he decided to take a stroll around the woodland; keeping his Kantana just for reassurance again.

It was still dark, though Rengoku missed the thrill of being out at night while hunting down demon's. Saving the lives of Hunans with an ever faltering smile - that was all he needed... the simple satisfaction of preserving a life.

Kyojuro had never even given a thought to his love life.

He was just stuck on the mindset that one day he would find a beautiful young woman to love and look after when he was finished being a demon slayer, however this stereotype got in the way of how he actually felt.

Rengoku didn't find women attractive, nor did he find arousal from them. He couldn't even imagine himself spending the rest of his life with a woman, let alone marrying one.

In truth, Kyojuro liked men.

It had become more apparent to him when he started to spend more time with Tomioka Giyuu. Rengoku often caught himself staring at the water pillar's perfect features, his calm but alluring face.

And now... kyojuro had caught himself doing the same thing with Akaza. Yes it made him feel weird and foreign for liking the same gender; but he just couldn't help the feeling.

The pillar let out a strained sigh at his predicament as dead leaves crunched under his foot, the distant sounds of owl's filtering out his unstoppable thoughts. However Kyojuro did make sure he kept an eye out for demons just in case.

And right now, he couldn't sense anything. Which was strange considering the upper moon stalking him in the branches above.

That was until something gave it away. A branch Akaza was standing on happened to break away, descending right for the top of Rengoku's head.

"Kyojuro! Move!"

The pillar was startled by the sudden shouting, making him snap his head upwards and move out of the way just in time. Splinters of wood and bark scattered around his feet, followed by a slightly awkward looking demon.

"So you're trying to kill me now? I thought we worked out an agreement" kyojuro had his head dipped to the floor as Akaza jumped down from the trees.

Akaza wore an expression of guilt "no! I didn't mean to do that I swear!" Akaza had never sounded so desperate in his demon life before, it even startled Kyojuro himself. The pillar sighed and wiped his hair out of his eyes "whatever. I'm walking right now anyways"

Akaza outstretched his band to catch Rengoku's cape before he took another step "kyojuro! Can I... come with you?"

Rengoku could tell he was sincere, it was rather strange to be feeling the emotion of sincerity wafting of a demon of all things. To be honest Rengoku didn't know what he was feeling at the moment "just don't disturb my peace"

Akaza lit up like the sun itself and skipped over to Rengoku, his large grin almost completely visible even in the darkness. Rengoku's brows furrowed as he felt Akaza's hand brush against his occasionally as they neared the edge of the woods.

"Do you need something? I already gave you enough blood for a night, you can't be needing more alrea-"

"Kyojuro hold my hand eh?~" Akaza interjected as they left the woodland through a long stretch of trees. Looking up - Rengoku smiled at the many shining dots staring down on them both. With a sigh the pillar wordlessly grabbed Akaza's significantly bigger hand and held it gently.

The demon's eyes widened in surprise, he wasn't actually expecting Rengoku to agree; though he'll admit it was certainly a pleasant surprise.

Taking advantage of the situation, Akaza pushed his side against Rengoku's arm and looked at the moon with a smile of delight; his night had just gotten a whole lot more exciting.

"Hey Kyojuro?" Akaza poked the male's cheek to get his attention. However he was ignored and Rengoku's eyes stayed fixated on the sky "kyojurooo~" Akaza wined with a now slightly pouting face, poking Rengoku's cheek over and over.

What the demon wasn't expecting to hear was soft laughter come from the taller male, surprised Akaza looked up at him in confusion; Rengoku's chest rose and fell in rhythm as his cheeks became red from the cold air as he chuckled.

"...kyojuro? What's so funny! Tell me!" Akaza swung Rengoku's hand around to grab his attention again like a small child.

However he froze as soon as their eyes met "look at you all needy! It's like you can't survive without me!" Rengoku breathed out through more extravagant laughter. It was like he was his old happy self again.

"That's not true Kyojuro! You were just ignoring me" Akaza shouted back, his sharp teeth barred.

Rengoku finally calmed down with a deep breath and wiped a happy tear from the corner of his good eye "yeah yeah..." he grinned and ruffled Akaza's short pink hair, it felt surprisingly soft to the touch; it was hard to pry his hand away to be honest.

Akaza felt some warmth come to his cold body at the pillar's touch. It was strange. Akaza hasn't felt warmth since he turned into a demon, after all he was technically dead so his body did not generate heat.

For that blissful moment. Akaza felt himself relax into the touch of his hand; closing his eyes in peace until he could no longer feel the pillar at all, followed by a loud thud.

Alarmed the demon quickly opened his eyes to see Rengoku laying still on the floor, dots of blood seeping through his clothes where his injury was; it looked as if the wound had opened up again "kyojuro!"
