The iridescent glow of the moon reflected onto Akaza's strangely pale unfazed face, his eyes snapping back at forth as the hashira watching him couldn't help but be worried yet annoyed.

"Kyojuro I got you these" the demon placed a small paper bag on the foot of Rengoku's bed, being weary of his movements for some reason. The other looked curiously at the bed then looked back into those glowing demonic eyes "Akaza we cannot see each other anymore."

The demon was taken aback "what do you mean Kyojuro? No one has noticed" Akaza sounded strangely calm today.

"You must leave"

The pillar's eyes were dark. It reminded Akaza of the day the two fought at the insistent of Mugen train, the demon didn't like this change in him and was determined to get to the bottom of it.

"What are you saying? Our deal Kyojruro! You don't want me to go back to eating humans again right?" Akaza was desperate. It's not that he didn't want to eat humans. He couldn't. They all tasted foul... except for Kyojuro's blood. Without him Akaza would starve.

The pillar's blanket scrunched in his hands, knuckles going white from clenching the fabric so tightly "I can't... just go" he forced out, avoiding eye contact with the upper moon who's face was distort with confusion.

"Kyojuro I need you"

"No you don't." Rengoku countered, now glaring at him. Akaza gritted his teeth once he felt his canines grow automatically from anger "yes I do! Why are you doing this? Do I make you feel uncomfortable?" He returned the glare, throat croaky with growls.

The pillar turned his head in dismissal "I hate you. Leave"

Another demand.

"No" something seemed to irk Akaza about Rengoku's statement. The simple line 'I hate you' felt like a direct hit to the stomach.

"No. I won't leave Kyojruo, if you want me to you'll have to do it by force"

Rengoku raised his brow, trying to push away his feeling again "that's an unfair battle. I'm still healing" Akaza let out a strained sigh, trying to calm his nerves even a little "kyojruo I don't want to fight you"

"Well then what could you possibly want from me other than blood?" The pillar snapped back, even surprising himself by the anger in his tone.

Akaza narrowed his eyes further, suddenly jumping onto the end of Rengoku's bed with an angry expression "do you know how damn hard I've been trying to protect you Kyojuro? You don't have any fucking clue" the demon snapped back, slamming his hands either side of the other's head to close the distance between them.

Kyojuro scrunched his features "protecting me? From what I've been perfectly fine!" Rengoku didn't notice it but his face had started to grow a rosy hue from their proximity.

"From an upper moon Kyojuro! You don't even have the faintest idea what I went through to make sure you were safe!"

The pillar could feel Akaza's hot breath on his face, for the first time in a while Rengoku could sense rage and killing intent; putting him on alert instantly. However the killing intent didn't feel right, like Akaza didn't want to kill him - he wanted to kill someone else desperately.
