The unexpected visit from the fairy godmother.

The social worker came over at 10:30 whilst Líla was having lunch with Adam.

He let her into the house nervously not quite sure what to expect whilst she took in the surroundings and wrote something on a page attached to the clipboard.

The elderly, plump lady sort of reminded Adam of the fairy godmother from Cinderella.

"G'day, I'm Charlene."

Adam shook her hand as Líla popped her head into the passage to see who it was. Charlene looked back at her.

"She must be the little chick. She's adorable."

Líla was just as captivated by the social worker's presence as much as Adam was.

It's not like he was expecting a blank-faced dragon to be the social worker but he hadn't expected someone so cheerful.

Líla came over to Adam and hugged his leg as she gave a small wave to Charlene.

"¡Hola!," she said shyly.

Charlene smiled at her and bent over slightly to her level. "Hi, there, you must be Líla."

Líla nodded.

"Okay Hun, what are you up to?"

"I was with Tío, making lunch."

Adam scratched the back of his head. "I'm sorry, that's rude of me. Would you like some pancakes with us? We weren't expecting you today."

"We prefer being unexpected. Don't worry about me. We aren't supposed to eat on duty. Just act as you normally do."

"Okay. Líla, would you mind?"

Líla sheepishly detached from Adam and asked Charlene to follow. As Charlene walked to the breakfast table with her, Adam followed behind. She sat at the table next to Líla and Adam.

"Mr Morgenstern, I would like to speak to Líla alone for a while after lunch. Is there anywhere you'd recommend or feel comfortable with?"

"Is the playground at the beach okay? Líla made some plans to meet up with some friends today."

"That's fine. Are these friends from school?"

"No, they're family friends."

She nodded, writing something down and Adam was tempted to lean over and have a look.

Líla finished her lunch and there was a knock on the kitchen door. Phoenix opened it, popped his head in, and was taken back at the lady sitting next to Líla.

"Hello, how ya goin'?"

She greeted him back and Adam explained she was the social worker. His mouth made an O-shape as he greeted her properly. "Hello, my name is Aiden. I'm a friend of Adam's."
