Avery opened the door and her eyes fell on Grace, who mirrored her shocked expression.

Grace gave Adam a blank look and pointed at Avery. "Ella non-es un doctor."

Adam smiled sheepishly. "Well, yes, but Mira is–"

"Mira's a paediatrician-in-training, Adam." Avery frowned in confusion. "Unless something is wrong with Líla, she's not qualified to help out yet."

"Yes but she knows the basics, right?"

Mira appeared at the door wondering why Avery hadn't invited the guest in yet.

Her eyes lit up seeing Adam and Grace.

"Oh, Ms Gonzaléz, why are you still outside? Please come in."

Grace looked between Mira and Avery blankly, saying nothing.

If anything, Adam noticed the slight roll of the wheelchair that had begun to move her backwards. Avery looked up at Adam who was closely watching his mother's reaction.

She couldn't let it get to him. She quickly manoeuvred out of the apartment door and latched onto the back of Grace's wheelchair.

Grace tried to turn around to look at Avery as she began to push her into the apartment before she could protest. Mira moved out the way allowing her to wheel Grace into their apartment living room as Adam followed after.

He felt himself blush, trying to avoid eye contact, remembering Avery and Mira had walked in on him and Phoenix the night before.

He noticed Mira remained standing there waiting for Adam to hug her back. He eventually gave in and she wrapped him in a hug, her short arms around him.

He forgot what a huger she was.

It was strange to see her since the wedding.

She looked so normal and like she wasn't about to fall over from the weight of her clothes but something was glowing about her.

"Soooo..." she whispered as they watched Avery position Grace in front of the TV and began flipping through the channels to look for something for her to watch.

Grace glared at Avery several times but Avery smirked back in retaliation knowing how much it bothered Grace.

They started bickering over something.

"You and Phoenix?"

He turned to her in shock and then back to Grace hoping she hadn't heard. Mira followed his gaze and covered her mouth with a gasp.

"I'm sorry. I forgot–"

"It's fine, just drop it. He and I haven't discussed anything since then."

They stood there awkwardly as Avery began to bring over several trays balanced on her arms as snacks for Grace.
