Finally, the illusion shatters but what happens next?

Adam was the first out of the car with the groceries and in the house. He made his way to the kitchen, having vaguely remembered where it was from all the parties Avery had thrown.

He placed the paper bags onto the countertop and began to empty them.

Phoenix emerged shortly after with the last of the bags.

Adam ignored him.

Phoenix balled his fist on the countertop, watching Adam empty the packets.

Once Adam was done, he walked over to the sink and washed his hands.

Phoenix stood up. "That's it. Why the hell are you acting so stuck up?"

Adam whirled around to face him. "So now you're talking to me?"

Phoenix glared at him, his hands on his hips as Adam continued. "Why the fuck didn't you tell me Massimo was married?!"

Phoenix raised his arms in disbelief. "What difference would it have made in your life anyway?"

"It would have made a big difference to know that you and he weren't a thing."

Phoenix combed through his hair in frustration. "You're kidding me, right? You're so effing confusing."

Adam was taken aback by the harshness of Phoenix's tone.

"Honestly, tell me why would it bother you if he and I were dating anyway? You can always go after one of your girls like Evelyn!"

"What the hell are you talking about? Evelyn was a psychopath who tried to kill you–"

"Please, it must be quite exciting dreaming about her anyway. What was she doing: jerking you off in the movie theatre again?"

Adam dropped the vegetables into the sink hiding his face from Phoenix. "Why do you keep bringing Evelyn up?"

"Because you were dreaming about her last night, right? You were making out with her but–"

"My dream? Aiden..." Adam whipped around facing Phoenix and Phoenix flinched at Adam using his first name.

"My dream last night was..." His voice got caught in the back of his throat before he revealed the truth to Phoenix.

What was scary was he realized how close he was to admitting it to himself.

Adam turned back to the sink. "It was nothing. Just forget–"

"It wasn't nothing for me when you kissed me!"

Adam froze and then he slowly turned around to face Phoenix who stared at him, blinking back tears. "What?"

Phoenix didn't respond.

He looked at Adam and then at the door and back at Adam. He took a step back.
