Adam found himself, along with the rest of the gang, back at the hospital.
Ray was getting stitched up by Claudia, again, and Giya was talking to them. Mira and Avery were with Gray and Riyan whilst his arm was being put in a sling.
That left Adam and Phoenix alone, outside Xalios's room. Phoenix hadn't said much since they got home and took a shower or even as they sat together here now. Although, even if he did, Adam wasn't sure what he would say to him.
Adam sighed. "What now?"
Phoenix shrugged, looking down at the ground aimlessly. Adam nudged his shoulder causing him to look up. "Yes?"
"It's over, Phoenix."
"Is it?" he whispered and Adam could see his dilemma.
Xalios was still very much alive which could be an issue.
"He can't get to us."
"That's what Giya said ten years ago and look at us now."
"Phoenix!" he said firmly getting Phoenix to look him in the eye. "It will be okay."
Phoenix nodded and placed his head on Adam's shoulder. "Too late to run away?"
Adam chuckled as Giya stepped into the corridor, looking for someone.
"I think so."
Giya spotted the two of them and Adam watched as she hesitated but he smiled at her and beckoned her forward. Phoenix lifted his head to see her and immediately looked in the opposite direction. Adam decided maybe they needed a bit of time to themselves and excused himself.
"Phoenix, I'm going to check up on my mom and Líla and give them the news about Kyle. I'll be back soon."
Phoenix gave him a single nod.
Giya watched as Adam left and then drew her attention back to Phoenix.
"Soooooo?"
She rocked back and forth on her heels. He said nothing. She sighed.
"We got a lot to talk about."
Phoenix rolled his eyes and Giya glared at him. He immediately broke.
"Sorry," he mumbled as she sat next to him.
She pulled him closer and he adjusted himself so he could lay his head on her lap. She combed her fingers through his hair.
"That must have been a shock to you. I apologise for the theatrics but I had to buy enough time for Xandy to get here once I realised Xalios had the boys."
Phoenix played with his fingers as Giya brushed out his hair.
