The boy, the vines and the closet in the painting!

After his encounter with Xalios, Adam went straight home.

He closed the front door and placed his forehead on it as he took a deep breath. He had no idea how to face his mother after the court case earlier. He turned around, tossing his broken phone onto the entrance table.

The house was grey – not literally but there was a heavy cloud casting its way over the house.

He loosened his tie from around his neck and took off his suit jacket. Líla emerged, hooping down the stairs. She ran up to him and hugged his legs.

"Tío, Tío did we win?" She looked up at him with expectant eyes.

He gave her a strained smile. "Not yet, Lí. Not yet."

He ruffled her hair walking over to the lounge area where the picture of his mother was; it almost looked like a painting of her.

He threw his suit jacket over his shoulder as he looked into her blue eyes. "I guess you could say I messed up. If you are up there like Mama says, please help show me the right way."

He diverted his gaze back to the floor, no longer feeling worthy enough of looking his mother in the eyes.

Líla walked up next to him and tilted her head up as she took his hand. "Abuela says the lady is your real mom. She says she left a long time ago to join God."

Adam picked her up as Líla slowly reached to touch the surface of the portrait.

"She's so beautiful, just like you, Tío. Do you remember what she was like?"

Adam slowly shook his head and Líla hugged him.

"It's okay because we had other mama's. Abuela became your mama." She giggled. "And you became my mama."

Adam couldn't help but smile, even if the tears threatened to show Líla the truth.

He wondered what life would have been if his mother was alive or if his older sister was alive. It definitely would not have been as disastrous as it is now.

Adam hugged his niece close.

"I'm sorry, Líla." This time it was an apology to his older sister.

"Nìna," Grace appeared in her wheelchair at the lounge entrance.

Adam couldn't look at her.

He let Líla go and she ran up to her grandmother. "Sí."

"I need to speak to tu Tío. Go upstairs."

Líla hesitated but Grace gave her a stern look. Líla bolted upstairs. Adam opened his mouth to apologize to Grace but she interrupted before he could.

"Your mother named you Adda." Grace scrunched up her face. "The Welsh version of Adam. I would have chosen the name Adam for mi hijo too."

Adam was slightly taken back by Grace's statement.
