Omniscient POV:
The day the dead started walking was the day it felt as though the entire world had flipped upside down. At first, people thought it was a hoax and nothing more, not seeing much proof firsthand and not believing what people on the internet had to say. They knew how they could be.
But more images spread, much to the government's displeasure, more and more dead people were found, it was slowly spreading across the world.
Then suddenly, it was all on news stations, everywhere you went, honestly you couldn't miss even if you wanted to. There was proof that it was real though, it was actually happening, and it was happening fast. Everyone was sent into a frenzy, the world crumbled right beneath where they stood without a second to waste.
It became a struggle getting by for most that weren't in groups, being alone was certain that you'd be signing a death wish.
Y/n didn't mind usually, not trusting others to have that power over her and be able to have any say in what she wanted to do. Not again would she fall into that trap.
She had learned her lesson many many times over the years, being the young and trusting little girl she was. Floating from group to group, it all seemed to end the same. Sometimes it was hard to even get a grasp on how she'd gotten in certain situations with groups that could barely hold themselves up. She managed, though.
She'd had to suck it up when winter came around, the white blankets and blizzards of snow while you were alone? Now that's a death wish if anything, so she'd stay in giant settlements for her own safety until the next season came around.
That started to get a little difficult when a few settlements broke out into war a few years back, harming more people than necessary in the process. But like stated previously before, she'd manage.
Even a decade or so later from when all of this started, Y/n is still standing, for better or worse. It wasn't easy, no one said it would be.
Yet it all leads to now, it's a hot summer morning and the sun is only just rising. A slight breeze passes through every now and then, sending chills up her spine, even with all the layers she had on. She persisted though, keeping an eye out for any zombies that may cross her path.
Over time Y/n has grown stronger as expected, even as the world continued with its means to take her down and everyone else with it.

You quietly hum a tune to yourself that you haven't heard in years, the sense of familiarity providing a source of comfort in the unfamiliar area you were in. You have an idle thought for a moment about the phone you used to have- it wasn't yours but it definitely had an interesting selection of music added to it.
That died a long time ago though, so you push the thought aside.
A low groan from behind you alerts you and you instinctively turn around to the noise, your hand subconsciously gripping the machete in your hand tighter.
You're met with the sight of a zombie sluggishly walking towards you, a chunk of its head missing and the distinct rotting smell that's expected. You swipe under its lets, causing it to fall to the ground in an almost cartoonish manner.
Its head bounces as it hits the ground, and a boing sound effect immediately passes through your brain. You quietly snicker, immediately regretting it as its head drops one more time, some of what you'd assume is its brains and blood splattering onto your boots.
You fight the urge to gag as you slam your boot onto his head, finishing the job, the disgusting sound of it all didn't exactly help you to say the least.
You aimlessly walk around for a bit longer before heading back to the RV, your mood and your appetite for any roaming animals officially ruined.
–
You step inside your RV, immediately taking off your protective gear and setting it onto the counter. The area seemed calm for the most part, a few zombies here or there, but there weren't exactly many buildings, or at least not any that seemed interesting enough to be looted.
You snap out of your thoughts when you feel a tail brush against your leg, the new sound of purring filling your ears. You automatically smile as you lean down and pet him. You've had him for a couple years or so, thankfully most settlements don't have a rule on pets as long as they're friendly (for the most part) and don't have any diseases.
You've trained him well and you keep him safe, so you don't have to worry much about it.
You decide to start your RV and make your way along the road a bit, dodging a few cars that were scattered along the sides of the road.
You stop when you find a train station, hoping it'd have some extra supplies. It's not like you'd need them anytime soon- but then again you never know. You hide your van among the trees across the road, doing your best to make it look unnoticeable.
You put your protective gear and back on and step outside with Milo, his feline eyes immediately examining the area. You walk towards the house, keeping an eye out for any creepy crawlies.
–slight time skip–
You step onto the cracked road, a slight gust of wind sending a shiver up your spine. It was getting hotter by the second, god, you hated summer. The place definitely seemed abandoned though, or maybe you thought that because of the fact that no one was shooting you yet. There's a huge crate next to the entrance that catches your eyes, and the front of the place seems to be "barricaded" if you could even call it that.
You then notice a sign as you make your way to the metal bars spread across the entrance, and it reads, 'Friendly? Ring bell (NO TRESPASSING)'
You lowly scoff at the naivety of the sign, glancing at the bell that was connected to the wooden sign. You decide against being completely stupid and ring it.
A few moments pass. There was no sign of anyone coming out anytime soon so you decide to push past the bars.
Milo hisses, alerting you that someone... or something was approaching. You look in the direction he stared off into, immediately noticing the zombie coming our way.
'Guess that's what I get for ringing the bell' you think to yourself.
You take your knife from your holster and wait for the slow zombie to approach you. You kick one of its knees causing it to kneel, you waste no time and directly stab your knife directly into its head, the sound of its groaning immediately ceasing a few moments after.
You take the knife back out of its head with a slight struggle, having to yank it out.
"And that's how it's done Milo," You speak cockily, glancing at the cat that stood behind you.
How did you get to the point where you started talking to your cat? Oh well.
You look around, noticing the unusual silence considering the sign that's up front. Your eyes catch sight of a tire swing, and your eyes light up at the sight, the child in you wanting to play. You push it back and silently promise yourself to swing on it later, first you have to secure the area.
There's nothing on this side of the house, except a deer skull on some barrels. You decide against taking it with you, already having one in your RV.
You make your way to the front door of the train station, there's not a soul in sight, the silence unnerves you a bit. You do your best to shrug it off and try your luck with opening the door. It's locked, or there's something against it... you probably should've expected that.
You sigh, taking your backpack off your shoulders to grab your crowbar.
