Chapter 37 ; Change Your Ways

It doesn't take long for you to run into someone else as you all run away, and you see James near some rocks with a knife in hand. He turns around at the noise and you can't describe the look he has when he sees you all.

"James!" AJ says happily.

He simply looks at you both, nodding, which you both return. Zombies are not far behind and he shoves his knives in his pockets, and you all run with him. He leads you to an entrance of a cave and you all stare at it warily.

"We have to move!" James exclaims, stepping up to you both.

You both take another glance at the zombies approaching, then each other. You rush to the cave, stopping at its entrance.

"We'll have to squeeze through there," Clementine says.

"We don't know where it goes," Tenn says nervously.

You sigh. "Well, the zombies don't care about that."

"But-"

"Move it, dummy!" AJ cuts Tenn off, rushing past him and into the cave. You all watch as he runs off, and Tenn walks in after him, obviously scared.

"I saw his eyes when he did it. I saw the bloodlust in them," James speaks up, making you both turn to him.

"What are you talking about?" Clementine asks.

"This really isn't the time for this," you say, looking at the zombies approaching.

James glances at them too, his lips pursed into a thin line. "Go."

He doesn't have to tell you twice as you both step into the cave, squeezing past the rocks and deeper inside. The air seems a lot cooler once you step inside, and you feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand.

"We're safe, but not for long," you say loud enough for everyone to hear.

"Damn it, it's so dark in here," Clementine breathes out, looking around.

"We can't move forward without a way to see," James says, glancing back at the entrance, which was kind of your only source of light at the moment.

"We'll figure something out," you mutter reassuringly, walking off.

You all go in different directions and you find some flint. It's hard to see as you stumble around in the dark, but there's a stream in the middle of the cave, the hole in the wall to let the water outlet lets moonlight in, providing you with another source of light.

Clementine finds some cloth from a zombie corpse and a toy, and you both walk over to AJ.

"It's so dark in here," he says.

"We're working on it," Clementine says.

He crosses his arms. "It doesn't feel safe, there's too much danger outside. I wish I had a gun."

"We'll be out of here soon," you reassure him, stepping away when you hear the zombies get closer.

You walk over to James near the entrance. "If they get in here, I'm going to have to kill them. I don't want to do that," he says lowly, shaking his masked head.

As you turn around Tenn speaks up, "Y/n, did you... did you see Minnie out there? I didn't see her anywhere. But that doesn't mean she escaped, I don't know."

"We all saw her on the beach," you sigh out. "She was bitten, Tenn."

His eyes widen and he looks away. His eyebrows furrow in sadness as he stares off distantly, "So she'll go to the next place. With Sophie. That's good."
