A zombie illuminated by the spotlights on the ship is shot by an arrow piercing through its skull. It thuds to the ground and the spotlight is immediately moving on to find its next target. You drag the zombie further back into the woods and let it fall to the ground once you’ve gotten far enough.
Everyone walks up.
“Ugh. I guess we’re really doing this,” Ruby says disgustedly, staring at the zombie in front of your feet.
“Only the team blending in with the walkers need to cover themselves,” Clementine explains.
“Now we just need your walker friend to-”
“He’s here!” AJ says, making you spin around to see James standing there.
“Good Lord,” Ruby mutters in shock when she turns around, seeing the zombie skin on his head.
“Uh…hello,” he mutters anxiously. He stands there and you have to refrain from laughing at the awkwardness he has. You step next to him, “Guys, this is James.”
“He’s my friend,” AJ says with a smile.
“He’s uh…” Tenn trails off.
“So. Cool!” Willy exclaims, his look of fear changing to one of wonder in seconds. He walks over to him, “How do you get the skin like that?”
“Oh, I, uhm.. Guys?” his voice wavers with his nerves. You find it ironic that he’s the one nervous, but when he’s around zombies he feels at ease.
“Can I try it on?” Willy asks.
“That’s not a good idea,” James responds.
“Please!? I’ll-”
“Quiet, Willy. Someone might hear you,” Clementine scolds him lightly.
“Loud is bad,” AJ mutters.
“Give him some space, Willy,” you say.
“But I wanna-”
“Not right now,” AJ says with a glare.
“Yeah, right.. sorry. I didn’t mean to be weird or anything,” he mutters, taking a step back.
“It’s okay,” James says softly.
“Oh, and sorry I tried to shoot you that one time. Your mask looks so real.”
“I, uh… hey there. James, sorry about Willy,” Violet says awkwardly, stumbling over her words as she takes a step forward. He simply nods and looks at you and Clementine standing next to each other.
“Uhm, guys, could I speak to you alone, for a moment?” he asks.
“Good idea,” Clementine says.
“Hold tight,” you say and you and Clementine walk after James.
“Hey. Tenn, can you come talk for a sec? There’s something I have to tell you,” you hear Violet say as you both walk away, and you assume it has something to do with Minnie.
Clementine takes your hand and smiles when you gently run your thumb across the back of her knuckles. You all get a pretty good distance before James stops at a clearing near the path, crossing his arms.
“The walkers. They’ll be here in a little while. You can join them as they pass through the trees. The noise from the boat will draw them toward the water,” he explains.
You and Clementine finally reach him and you end up in the middle of them both.
“Then we can get on board and save our friends,” Clementine says.
