"I've never met anyone like James before. I mean he's tough, not like you guys, though." AJ says as you all walk through the doors to the dorms. "He doesn't kill monsters... but he's not scared of them, either."
He smiles. "He's cool."
You all find Ruby holding some pillows as you round the corner. "Oh hey, guys. Willy told me the plan. How'd things go with that... guy?"
"James. He agreed to help us," Clementine says with a grin.
"If somebody'd told me we were gonna sneak onto a boat in a herd of walkers, I'd have called them crazy," Ruby says, shaking her head.
"What're you doing with those?" AJ asks, finally noticing the pillows in her hands.
"Oh. Well, I wanted to throw one last hootenanny before the big fight," she replies.
"Swear?" AJ asks, looking back at you and Clementine.
"Huh?" Ruby says.
"It sounds like a swear."
"No, it's just another word for a party," you say as you and Clementine giggle.
"Right," Ruby confirms. "I know it sounds strange, throwing a party. But people need something to lift their spirits right about now."
"This could be our last chance," Clementine mutters, making you sigh.
"I wanted to make some tea for everyone. Could I borrow your little heater thing?" Ruby asks and you both nod.
"What can I do?" AJ asks excitedly, a grin overtaking his face.
"We need to pretty up the old music room. Could you make us something colorful to hang up?"
He nods. "Okay! I'll be an artist."
He runs off and quickly shuts the door behind himself. You and Clementine say goodbye to Ruby and enter the room yourselves. AJ's already sitting in the chair at the desk, pencil in hand, scribbling away at some paper.
"I'm gonna make the deck... the decker-"
"Decorations," you help him pronounce the word.
"Decorations," he repeats strangely with a grin, "For the party."
"Okay, I'll get the heater," Clementine says.
"And I'll feed Milo," you say.
You grab some food from your bag for Milo and place it on the ground, it doesn't take him long to eat it. He hops onto the table next to AJ and watches his hand frantically moving across the paper like it was the most interesting thing in the world.
Clementine places down the sketch toy you gave her a while ago after she shows AJ how to use it. She hangs up the rabbit's foot she found on the frame of you and AJ's bunk.
"There. For luck," she says.
"Are bunnies lucky?" AJ asks, looking at her.
"Nope. Just their feet," she responds with a grin.
She goes over to the door and places a horseshoe on it, it swings for a moment until it inevitably stills, hanging there in the center by a nail.
"Have you guys ever ridden a horse?" AJ asks and you both nod.
"We'll teach you someday," you say, making him grin.
Clementine places a beet toy on the desk next to where AJ was drawing.
"What's his name?" AJ asks.
"Beet -Nick," she says with a grin.
AJ laughs. "That's funny."
