Chapter 19 ; The Greenhouse

Clementine lays out the map she got from Marlon and tells you both about the plan she has. Setting the picnic tables up at the entrance of the gates, rigging the path with traps to lure in the attackers to the main entrance so they don't get any sneaky ideas, getting the barbed wire to put on the walls since they need fortifying.

"I'll go get the barbed wire," she says.

"Are you sure? It's gonna be swarming with walkers by now." Violet says, her voice laced with worry

"Okay! What the hell is going on!?" You hear from behind you, you and Clementine turn around and see Mitch pushing open the double doors upset. "Willy told me they were back, but I was like, no way, Violet wouldn't just go against what we all decided like that."

Ruby hushes him, quietly shutting the doors. "Shh! Would you keep it down?! The little boy is asleep! His fever's already going down, Clem, Y/n. He's gonna be okay."

You both let out a sigh of relief at that. "Thank you, Ruby."

"Great. We're just giving them our medicine, too?" Mitch asks.

Violet steps in front of you both. "Mitch, those raiders are getting ready to attack the school. We need their help."

"Like hell we do. For all we know, they're with them," he replies.

"They're not. If you saw their leader's boot on Clem's neck and the gun she had pointed at Y/n's head you'd fucking know that."

"All I know is that since they've shown up, it's been trouble," he says, glaring at you both.

"Use your fucking head, Mitch!" you yell, stepping up to him. He steps back in fear. "You saw AJ on your way in. If we were with the raiders, why would they have hurt him like that?"

"How do I know? Maybe he shot one of their friends?"

"Yeah? Well, I'll fucking-"

"Mitch!" Ruby yells, cutting you off and he looks back at her, taking it as an opportunity to get some distance between you both. You scoff lowly and shake your head.

Violet steps between you both and advances to Mitch making him step back anxiously. "Clem and Y/n are going to the greenhouse to find barbed wire and anything else they think we need for the fight, and you're going to help them."

"Uh, no. I'm not," he says with a shake of his head.

"Yes. You are, it's too dangerous for them to go on their own right now, and you're good in a fight," Violet says angrily, shoving him against the door with a harsh point to his shoulder. Ruby quickly walks up. "I can go, too. You know, to keep the peace."

"Fuck, Vi. Since when are you the one making the calls?" Mitch asks, pushing her shoulder but she barely budges.

"Since no one else stepped the fuck up," she says, stepping away with venom laced in her voice. Mitch's face twists in anger at that and he looks at the ground, clenching his jaw without another word.

"These two will meet you at the gate, and you can head to the greenhouse once I've explained the situation," Violet says to you both, and you both nod.

Clementine steps up to the door and pauses, making you do the same. Mitch glares at you both and you both glare back. "See you there," Clementine speaks up, and she grabs your hand and drags you out of the room before you can say anything rude.

You both step into the hallway and you both pause when you see Louis kneeled next to AJ. "I'm so sorry little dude, please be okay," he whispers.

He looks over and sees you both walking over, prompting him to stand up. "I.." he trails off. He shakes his head and snaps his mouth shut, walking by you both.
