As Y/n walked to her fifth period AP English Literature class, she realized that she was going to be in it alone. Though a bit disappointed, she sucked it up and walked through the classroom, going straight to the back.

The girl moved to sit unassumingly at a corner desk and she settled down, opening up her backpack to grab her notebook and pencil. As she propped her arm up and laid her cheek against the palm of her hand, she looked around the room aimlessly, hoping that maybe next period, she'd get to have at least one friend to sit with.

As her eyes lazily flickered from poster to poster, she noticed someone sitting off to the side.

And to her horror, it was Ymir.

The freckled girl was on the opposite side of the room. Y/n briefly made eye contact with Ymir before quickly looking down.

'Fuck!' she thought to herself.

Class started, and the teacher gave them a writing assignment right off the bat, which according to him was to gage the class's writing level.

"You'll be writing one solid paragraph of analysis for the excerpt displayed on the projector," Mr. Bozado had said. "And then you'll read someone else's and give critiques on what they've written, so partner up. You can move around to sit next to whoever, but if I catch a whiff of tomfoolery, I'll assign the partners myself," the man said as he gave his class a firm look.

Everyone was quick to pull up their desks next to their friends, and Y/n sat motionless at her desk as she felt her heart drop. She didn't know anyone.

Suddenly, a desk rammed right into hers, and she looked up to see that Ymir had pushed a desk next to it.

"Hey there, partner," she said with a smirk as she sat down in front of Y/n and slumped down into a lax position. "How've you been?"

And Y/n stared blankly at the girl, staying quiet as she wished that she had never taken AP English Lit.

"Oh, c'mon, don't be like that," Ymir said as she brought out her notebook and tossed it carelessly onto the table. "Are you still pissed at me?"

Y/n frowned down at the table and that was all the confirmation Ymir needed.

"Ah, you are," Ymir said as she nodded her head and held a troublesome smile on her face.

"So...what? You're just gonna ignore me the whole time? Or are you gonna suck it up and work on this assignment?" Ymir had asked bluntly and Y/n let out a wisp of a breath to calm her nerves.

Without saying anything, Y/n nodded and began to write.

The two finished quietly and gave their notes on their paragraphs, and Y/n felt relief once the assignment was finished. She hoped that Ymir would go back to her own desk.

But the girl lingered, proclaiming she had nothing better to do.

"So, you kicked Armin to the curb, huh?" Ymir had inquired and Y/n clenched her teeth. "I heard from around that he'd said something to piss you off. Is that why you got a shiny new boyfriend?"

Y/n was trying her damned best to not let Ymir get to her, but the mischievous girl was making that extremely difficult.

"Or is your boy-toy just a placeholder for when you forgive blondie?"

The bell rang and Y/n shot up from her desk, bustling out of the classroom and away from Ymir's rude questioning.

The girl was angry as she made her way to her next class, advanced calculus.
