"Hey, Connie, what can I get for you?"
Y/n perked up for sure as soon as Connie entered the coffee shop that day, mid shift.
"Connie's here?"
Eren poked his head from out the back and came up to the counter, ignoring how his wet hands dripped with soap and water from washing dishes.
"Hey, guys," the boy greeted a bit less enthusiastically than usual. "I just want a hot chocolate."
The boy pulled out a five dollar bill and Y/n and Eren looked at each other.
"Connie, you seem down, what's wrong?" Y/n's brows knitted together in worry as she fixed her attention onto the boy.
"Just...some things," he said mysteriously as he shifted on his two feet. "I'll have a small cup."
Y/n opened her mouth to say more, but she didn't want to pry if the boy wasn't already being open about what was wrong.
With a small smile, Y/n waved her hands.
"Don't worry about that," she said as she motioned at the five dollars.
The girl grabbed a large cup and wrote down Connie's name.
"It'll be out right now, just gimme a sec," Y/n said as she moved to steam the milk.
"Uhh...will I get in trouble for this?" Connie whispered over to Eren and the boy shook his head.
"Nah, dude. Old Man Reeves is out on his break right now."
"It's just you two here?"
"Yup!" Eren said with faux enthusiasm. "We are horribly understaffed, please apply."
"Hell no," Connie chuckled out.
Eren grinned.
"At least I tried," the brunette said. "So, you and Sasha excited about homecoming on Friday?"
At that, Connie frowned.
"Yeah, I guess," the short haired boy said.
"You guess?" Eren asked with a raised brow. "Why's that?" He pressed and Y/n scolded the brunette.
"Eren, I don't think he wants to talk about it."
"No, it's fine," Connie cut in. He heaved out a sigh.
"Sasha and I broke up," the boy said finally. "It just didn't work out. Things were weird between us," he said as he didn't meet Eren's eyes. "Like really weird. It felt forced."
"I'm sorry to hear that, Connie," Y/n said as she handed the boy his hot chocolate.
The drink had been embellished with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. It worked wonders at lifting Connie's mood.
"Aw, thanks, Y/n," he said as he smiled at how the 'i' in his name had been dotted with a star. "And it's all good, we're going as friends."
"That's good," Eren nodded. He then reached over the counter to pat Connie on the shoulder with his soapy hand. "Homies are where it's at. Who needs a girlfriend?"
"Eren, you literally complained to me earlier that you didn't have a date to homecoming," Y/n deadpanned and laughed as she and Connie grinned.
"Fuck off, I'm trying to bro out with Connie," the green-eyed boy glared at her and Y/n only snickered.
Eren huffed.
"Not everyone can have a fancy relationship like you," the brunette mocked and Y/n rolled her eyes.
