Virginia - a while later

It has been quite a while sense sir Thomas Gates took command. He and his second in command, sir Thomas Dale, have been very firm on the laws they have established. I don't know very much, which is why I was planning to go ask father about it.

I walked out of the bedroom and into the main room that had the kitchen and dining room. My father was sitting by the table, writing a letter of some sort. He looked up and stopped once he saw me.
"Hello Virginia!" He said cheerfully.
I smiled and replied, "Hi dad." My attention then shifted from my father to his letter that was resting on the table.
My father notice, "You look like you have some questions."
My mind snapped back to reality, "Oh! Uh... yeah."
My father chuckled, as I continued speaking, "I just wanted to know how things have been around here sense, you know, I'm never told anything..."
Father just smiled. Then he cleared his throat and answered, "Well, our relations with the Powhatan have improved.... slightly... but now we have another tribe to deal with. I believe their name was the Algonquians. Either way, Thomas Gates has been strict with the interactions between us and that tribe."
I nodded in response.

Father then continued, "Anyway, the Powhatan and some of the other men in the colony, including me, are going to go raid one of the Algonquian villages. I'm not very sure on weather attacking their villages is a good idea or not, but they're saying that doing this will help our state with the Powhatan so..."
"Wow..." I said. When I asked what was going on, I didn't expect this to be the answer.
My dad clearly noticed the shocked look on my face, he simply smiled and rested his hand on my shoulder.
"Don't worry about it!" He told me.
"Kinda hard not to worry about it when it's happening within you..." I mumbled as I looked down.
He just pat me on the head, then got up and walked towards the door.

Suddenly a different thought popped into my mind, "Wait!" I called out.
Father stopped and looked back at me, "Yes, what is it Virginia?"
"What is that letter about?" I questioned. I was generally quite curious.
"Oh, I was just writing to your grandfather, Great Britain, about some of the things that have been going on!" He said with a smile, "I should get going now, I was asked to go to the meeting today to talk over the plans for the raid."
And with that he left, leaving me by myself.

After a while of standing there, I turned my head to the letter. I wanted so badly to see the continents of that letter, but I also didn't want to betray fathers trust, so I left it alone. I went back to my room, I looked through the window. It would only be a little while till sunset. I sighed, then got read for bed. Once I finished I hopped into bed and blew that cans on the nightstand next to me out. Leaving the room in total darkness. The only source of light being the moon that shined through the window, reflecting the light of the sun. It was a beautiful and peaceful night.  It seemed like things might finally get better. They might actually have a chance. I looked out into the night sky. Slowly I started to feel my eyes grow heavier and heavier, until I was fast asleep. I was knocked out on the bed, so exhausted that I didn't even notice the extremely creaky door open and my dad sit down on his bed. He looked over at me and smiled. Then quietly came over and rubbed my head, softly telling me, "Goodnight son..."
