Warning... you have been warned...
Virginia - A few days later
I woke up to the sound of a door closing. The sun was shining bright through the window. My eyes started to hurt from the sudden exposure to the bright light. Soon my eyes adjusted to the light. I got out of my bed and stood up and stretched. I rushed into the main room and ran to a window. My dad was leavening somewhere. After thinking for less than a second I decide to throw on my clothes and follow him. As soon as I'm ready I rush through the door. I sneakily follow my father, careful not to be caught.
I follow him outside of Jamestown, we get about a mile away when I realize what he's doing. 'Oh gosh... what kind of mess have I gotten myself into!' I thought to myself. Father was going with the other colonist to help the Powhatan raid the Algonquians. I mentally kick myself for not realizing this before. But I have no other choice but to continue following father, I was already too far from Jamestown to go back.
After walking for what seemed like hours my father and the colonists stop. I hide behind a tree. I slowly peak from behind it too find them stopped at a village. My father started to grip his musket in his hands. I assumed that this was the Algonquian village. I caught my breath, as I saw a group of Natives. They were carrying weapons, guards I guessed. As soon as they saw my father and the colonists their expressions changed from shocked, worried, to angry. They then started to change at them from behind.
I couldn't contain myself from blurting out, "WATCH OUT!"
My warning seemed to have reached them in time, as my father and the colonist dodged out of the way just in time. My dads head shot up almost immediately as he recognized my voice._ _
Colonial America -
'What the heck was Virginia doing here?!' I thought as I stared at my son who was hiding behind a tree. I looked over at one of the Algonquian Natives, he was staring right at Virginia. The Native's grip on his weapons tightened as he prepared to attack. I noticed and immediately ran towards Virginia. Too late the Native was much faster than me and ran straight at my son.
"MOVE!" I yelled at Virginia. He moved, barely escaping the sharp blade on the Natives spear.
I ran over to Virginia, "Are you ok?!"
"Y-yeah, I'm fine." He replied. He had a few small bruises, nothing too bad. I let out a sigh of relief. I helped him up, then looked towards the other colonist and gave them a look as if to say 'get ready and load your guns', which was exactly what I was trying to say. They seemed to have gotten the message as they loaded and started to aim their guns. There were five Native and seven of us including me. Virginia didn't count sense he didn't have any weapons on him and was just a child. I stood in front of Virginia taking a protective stance. I wasn't going to let anything happen to him. One of the native lunged toward a colonist and the colonist pulled the trigger on him.
I covered my sons eyes. I didn't want him to see what was happening. I looked sorrowfully at the the Native that was now on the ground. I knew what this meant. It was something that the Natives called "Blood Law".Some of the other Natives ran up to their fallen brethren. They looked up and growled at us. But before they could attack they were shot, but instead of bullets it was arrows. Some Native appeared from the trees, but they were different. They were Powhatan Natives. The backup had arrived.
And so the raid went on, and quite successfully. I stayed behind for most of, to make sure that Virginia didn't get home. We soon went back. I had may regrets, but one stood out the most... my regret of Virginia having to be there...
