June 1, 1985

The contractions were falling over her in waves and she was in so much pain because she was fighting the doctors and nurses who wanted to give her pain relief. Dr. Skye and her assissting nurses were lingering in the room, because they were being so tight lipped about the fact that Stevie was in labor they were not allowed to leave the room. All of their patients had to be transferred.

"What are you thinking about Steph?" Lindsey asks.

She was pretty much in an upright position her back pressed against the pillows but the bed was sitting up. He could tell that something was happening just by the way her nose was wrinkling and she had her head thrown back.

"I'm, I think...I don't." She states shifting up lightly. That drew Dr. Sky's attention and she slowly started walking towards Stevie.

"What?" Lindsey sits on the bed with her.

"There's pressure. A lot of pressure. I think I have to push." She states.

"Okay," Lindsey moves so he was up at the top of the bed with her, casting his gaze at Dr. Skye.

"I know you said you didn't want another cervical check. But if you let me check you, we can see if you can push."

"Okay." Stevie nods opening up her legs.

Dr. Skye nods and moves the blankets out of the way, and her gown up to under her breasts, to check her. Stevie raises up when she does it and she squeezes Lindsey's hand.

"Alright, you do have to push." Dr. Skye nods looking at the nurses, as she started fixing the bed and taking the blankets away from Stevie.  "They decided they wanted Dr. Waller as their pediatrician. He knows,  tell him that the baby will be here in a couple of hours and to be ready."

"Okay Stevie...on your next contraction I need you to push." Dr. Skye looks at her.

"Here we go Steph." Lindsey tells her kissing her head as she nods and takes in a breath and she pushes, screaming while she does so.

June 2, 1985

Stevie had been pushing for about three hours. It was officially the second of June at 2:30 in the morning. She was tired. Her energy was gone but she refused to give up, because if she gave up that meant emergency c-section. Stevie went in to push one more time and Lindsey kissed the top of her head. His eyes were closed, as silent tears fell because he was scared. She was starting to become out of it, she was exhausted her energy was gone, and he didn't like that. They knew there were risks and he was hoping that none of them would happen.

"It's a boy." Dr. Skye calls as a loud angry cry came from the end of the bed. Stevie in response had let out a relieved wailing and had fallen back into the pillows.

When the little boy was placed on her chest, she knew that she had lost the bet. Lindsey was right, she had fallen in love with him and she had fallen in love with her little prince who was crying on her sternum.

"I did it."

"Yeah, angel you did it." Lindsey nods chuckling lightly kissing her temple.

"He's a big one mama so you're going to need a couple of stitches once we get this placenta out. Dr. Waller is here, he's going to check on your little boy okay." Dr. Skye nods.

"But, my and..."

"He'll be right back. I promise. Are you circumcising him?" Dr. Waller approaches the bed. He was a newer pediatrician around the same age as Lindsey, but he interviewed well.

"Lindsey what does that mean." Stevie looks up at him.

"They cut the foreskin off of his penis...I'm not circumcised baby." He looks at her.

"No, no..." Stevie answers the doctor, and he nods taking the baby off of her chest.

"Lindsey, go with him."

"Okay Angel. I'll bring him back to you." Lindsey nods kissing her temple and then climbing off of the bed.

When Lindsey returns to the bed, everything was being kept under wraps so all they really did was go to the opposite side of the room, but when he brought the baby back to the bed, Stevie was sitting up her legs were still in the stirrups and Lindsey could see Dr. Skye stitching her up but her gown was back on properly.  He walked around the bed and Stevie giddily opened up her arms for him.

"He's dressed now." Stevie smiles.

He had been put in a onesie. It had short sleeves. It was white with a little teddy bear on the front of it. They had brought it from their house, but he was wrapped loosely in a blue plush blanket with silk edges. The corner that was closest to his face said Thank Heaven for Little boys on it.

"Yeah, but he's hungry." Lindsey nods, the baby still crying and wiggling around.

"I'm done down here, I can call in a lactation consultant?" Dr. Skye rolls away from between Stevie's legs and fixes the bed. Stevie slowly lowers her legs out of the stirrups and she winces slightly.

"You're going to be a little sore, for a few days. When you have to go to the bathroom, this allows you to page me and I'll come in and help you and show you how to care for your stitches. So consultant?" Dr. Skye asks.

"No, I'm not breastfeeding." She shakes her head.

"Did you bring formula then?"

"Yeah it's in our diaper bag. Linds can you?" She points to the chair.

"Yeah right here." He goes and retrieves it.

"So you're going to want to fill this with water until two ounces." Dr. Skye fills the bottle. "And then you want to do two scoops of formula. After about a month you'll move up to four ounces of water." She explains getting the bottle ready. She hands it to Lindsey and instructs him to shake it, while she fixes Stevie's blankets and then the horde of people leaves the room and Stevie places the bottle in the baby's mouth and he starts sucking it down greedily.

"Baby Boy, born June 2nd at 12:07 in the morning. He weighs nine pounds 12 ounces." Lindsey informs his wife.

"He's almost ten pounds." She gasps.

"He's a big boy." Lindsey chuckles grabbing his little hand quickly.

"So um, I guess I owe you." Stevie states biting her lip.

"Owe me what?" He states, pulling his finger out of the baby's grasp and fitting himself on the bed between her and the railing.

She gingerly scoots over to let him have a little bit more room, but her legs are still bent at her knees.

"A long happy marriage. You were right. He's perfect. I love him. And I love you." She looks up at him.

"He is perfect. We need a name for him."

"What do you think about William....King William Buckingham." Stevie looks at him.

"You didn't change your last name when we got married."

"I know, but he's going to be a Buckingham...I mean hell Linds, he looks exactly like you."

"That he does...What do you think about William Gregory. After my brother."

"It's perfect for him my love." Stevie nods. Lindsey gives her a smile and kisses her temple.

"Hey William, do you like that? Is that formula good?" Lindsey turns to the baby who kind of reaches out when he hears his father's voice.
