(Shoto's POV)I woke up to the sound of y/n's little hawk, Kei, pecking on the balcony door. I peeled myself away from y/n's bed, running my fingers through my hair as I opened the door for the bird. He fluttered inside, diving into the warmness of his nest, he must've been outside in the cold for sometime before I noticed him. "I'm sorry." I whispered to him, he squeaked something back that I didn't understand.
"He said that it's fine." y/n murmured from the bed, making me jump. I hadn't noticed that she was awake. She sat up, her shirt slightly lifted above her torso, probably from tossing and turning around at night. My smile turned into a frown when I noticed a big bruise on her side, along with other smaller ones littered around her stomach. What worried me the most though was the slight bruise on her cheek.
Slowly, I walked back towards the bed and sat next to her. She gave me a confused look but pursed her lips when I ran my through the bruising. "Did.. did something happen?" I muttered. "I- It's nothing Sho, don't worry about it." She said, using the nickname I love. "These weren't here yesterday y/n. Did I.. did I hurt you in my sleep or something?" I knew how sometimes I could shift around sometimes when I get bad dreams, even though I don't recall having any yesterday.
"Bruises take time to form Sho, these are probably from my training session yesterday before dinner. Don't worry about me, I'm fine." She smiled, making warmth wash all over me. I couldn't help but be suspicious of her explanation, but I didn't prod any further. She already seemed tired enough. "So what are you gonna do on this fine Sunday?" y/n asked, her arms slithering from behind to hug me. I leaned into her arms, and wings, which were also wrapped around me now.
"Father gave Midoriya, Bakugou and I unsolved cases to work with on the weekend." I sighed, letting her brush through my hair. She hummed contently, pushing my hair away from my forehead and placing a kiss on it. Smiling, I closed my eyes. "Would you like me to help you with yours? Miruko didn't give me anything to do over the weekend and I'm already done with all of my mission reports." I jumped, turning to look at her.
"Really?" I asked, happy that I get to spend more time with her. We haven't exactly had much time to spend together since the program started again. Sometimes I didn't even see her for a whole day. "Of course." She smiled. "I'd like that then. The papers are in my room." y/n's lips connected with mine briefly before she pulled away and told me that we should get to work.
"Alright, bring out the file." She muttered, sitting down on my bed. I grabbed the files that were on top of my neatly folded hero suit and spread them on the ground. "This happened in September, around three-four years ago." I began. y/n picked up one of the papers, the one that had a really blurry picture of what they suspect to be the person who committed the crime. "Apparently somebody crashed a private Chinese government jet. There's no trace of who did it, except for that photo, and it's way too unclear."
"I think my dad gave me the hardest one on purpose, there's no way I can... y/n? Love, are you okay?" I paused, looking at her. Her colour was a little off, but that's not what made me pause. Her hands were shaking and her eyes were wide as she stared at the documents. The picture slipped from her hand and fell on top of the pile of papers. "Hey hey what's wrong?"
I pushed away the pile of paper and kneeled in front of her, grabbing her hands. Her face was blank, her eyes empty and her mouth slightly open. Worry was eating at me, she wouldn't speak and I had no idea what was happening. "I solved your case, Shoto." She said after a while, it was so quiet I barely caught it. I stared at her with curiosity and concern in my eyes. "y/n what are you talking about? Are you okay?"
"Shoto I did it."
That took me aback, but I didn't let go of her. She had told me that she was forced to assassinate people before, but she never went into detail about any of the cases. "y/n..." "That's me in the picture. Case closed." She laughed, it wasn't an amused laugh. "Look, I told you this before, that wasn't you. So stop saying it okay? That was the commission, they're the ones who did it. They might have done it through you but they still did it. Now the case is closed. "
(y/n's POV)
I look at Shoto. "Sho... How can you always find the right words to say..?" I asked, smiling slightly. He always makes me feel better, even when I'm feeling like a monster. He smiled back, placing kisses on my hands. My smile fell when I started feeling dizzy again. This has been happening ever since I woke up. I feel like hell.
Suddenly I gagged. I ripped my hand away from Shoto and covered my mouth. "y/n?" He frowned. I stumbled away, trying to stand up and run to the nearest bathroom. "y/n?!" Shoto shouted behind me as I slammed the bathroom door shut and slid on the ground. My guts were empty by the time I was done, I had thrown up everything that I ate yesterday. That wasn't the most worrying thing.
There was blood too, a lot of it. I looked down, lifting the sleeve of my shirt to reveal the wrist where I stuck the needle. The skin around the puncture was blue. I guess a bigger dose means bigger consequences. I have to redo the serum again. But I need to get this problem fixed first. The door opened behind me, Shoto froze the lock and broke it. I hurriedly flushed the toilet and pulled down my sleeve. "What happened?" He asked, falling onto his knees next to me.
I whipped my mouth with my sleeve and shook my head. "Nothing. I must've eaten something bad yesterday, or caught a cold." What a pathetic excuse. But it seemed to have worked. I started coughing again, and my head dived back into the toilet. He ran his hand through my feathers and back, rubbing comforting circles. I groaned, flushing and wiping my mouth again. I slumped back against his chest, the back of my head rested in the crook of his neck.
My eyes were wet with tears, ah yes the lovely sensation of throwing up. He caressed my face and I leaned into his warm palm. "Love you're burning up.." He muttered. But I felt cold. "Help me up please. I need to get some painkillers.." I said, he nodded. He hoisted me up from the cold bathroom tiles and I slumped back against him. The room was spinning. Fucking hell I'm seeing double.
His sturdy arms caught me and wrapped around my waist. "Yeah.. Just get me to my bed Shoto..." He nodded. I stood up properly again, but he kept a hand on my back in case I fell over again. My wings sweeped the floor, I didn't have enough strength to keep them up anymore. "Here, lay here." He murmured, motioning to his bed. "What? No I'll infect it or something.." I protested weakly.
He shook his head and laid me down, covering me with a blanket. "I'll go get Recovery Girl." I grabbed his forearm and pulled him down into the bed, surprising him with my sudden strength. "No. It's just food poisoning. I'll get over it soon. Just.. lay with me will you?" I asked, he smiled. "Of course." Shoto wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into his right side to keep me warm.
Damn you Dabi, if you didn't pull out that stupid Nomu I wouldn't have had to throw my guts up.
At least I got one positive from this.
