Chapter 2.
___
[Now Playing: Nightlight by We Three]
~~~
Sapnap woke up, smacking his hand around the sheets before his hand landed on his phone, bringing the light up to his face and squinting to see it was 5:07AM, he had slept barely for half an hour. Probably because of that nightmare.. Sapnap shuddered as he thought back to them, he couldn't even remember them, but he did remember the pure fear and anxiety that came with them. He checked his phone again, only a couple of minutes had passed and he had plenty of time before he would have to get ready. Putting the phone on the desk as Sapnap sat up from his bed, quickly typed in the password; SapitusNapitus, and opened up YouTube, putting on a random Minecraft gameplay video.
Sapnap looked over at his YouTube recommended as the video began to end only seconds left, one of the videos sticking out in particular,
'playlist for when your missing your loved ones.'
His hand went over to the mouse, hesitating before clicking it. He scrolled down to the comments immediately, knowing someone would've posted the timeframes for each song as he'd seen them do before in videos like this. A soft groan of annoyance escaping his lips as he realized nobody had posted them, scrolling back up to the video as the ad ended and the first words of the song began to play.
I know you're insecure about what you said and wore
Could you say something real like how you actually feel
Sapnap smiled slightly, it seemed like a pretty good song. His eyes gazing over at the name of it,
Nightlight - We Three
Not what you think they want or what you think they need
'Cause I know you're not so tough, you're actually pretty weak
Sapnap sighed, he had always tried to keep keep his tough exterior up like a wall to protect himself.
Let's open up here for a change
And tell 'em things you tuck away
And say the things you never say
"Nightlight." Sapnap whispered to himself, the word itself bringing comfort like he was a kid again, finding comfort in his nightlight to keep all the scary monsters away.
Tell 'em that you miss your mom
And tell 'em that you're not that strong
You're sleepin' with the nightlight on
To try and keep your demons gone
Least now that he was older he had realized the only monster to hide from was himself. Sapnap sighed again, resting his chin on his arms in front of him, shutting his eyes as he listened to the music.
And how you're feelin' cold
In the middle of July
The shivers from your soul
They keep you up at night
Tell 'em that you miss your mom
Tell 'em that you're not that strong
Are you insecure they'll find out
Why you don't wear shorts when it's hot out
Why you hold back words when you go out
'Cause saying what you felt has never panned out
Like everything you say you think it stands out
But nothing's ever changed with a closed mouth
Sapnap drifted off into a light sleep as he listened to the music, unaware of the song's soft lyrics as they continued to serenade him to sleep...
. . .
"M-mom?" Sapnap stammered as he lifted his head up from the desk, eyes clear as he looked his mother up and down in confusion.
"Nick.." Her voice was soft and welcoming, a feeling bursting into his chest he hadn't felt in a while; Love.
He ran into his mothers arms, feeling her arms wrapping around his body. Her touch didn't feel very warm, or cold either, but he didn't mind or he just didn't notice. Sapnap let the tears fall from his cheeks as he tightened the embrace, his mother hugging him as tight as humanly possible as the tears transformed into painful sobs.
"I missed you my little spark." Sapnap smiled softly as the sobs began to slow down, hearing the nickname his mother had used to use for him all those years ago. Her little spark of life... Sapnap froze, slowly backing out of the hug as tears began to prick at his eyes again.
"This is a dream isn't it?" He sniffled, trying to meet his mothers eyes before realizing they were completely white, and blank of any emotion.
"Only if you think it is." She replied, a sad smile appearing on her face as her hands fell to her side.
"What's that supposed to mean-?" Sapnap said, taking a step forward again to try and go back into the hug. The teen beginning to realize that if this was a dream, he mine as well try to enjoy being with his mother as long as possible, even if she wasn't real.
"I'm sorry son.." His mother said, taking a step away as her form began to fade rapidly, before disappearing into smoke that twisted around in the air. Sapnap reaching his arm out towards it, wishing it would bring her back and that he hadn't realized.
He awoke with a gasp, his cheeks wet as Sapnap realized he must've been crying in his sleep. His headphones were only slightly displaced on his head, having mostly stayed in the same position while he slept. YouTube was still playing as well, a new song and playlist though.
Watching through my fingers, watching through my fingers
In my thoughts you're far away
And you are whistling the melody, whistling the melody
Crystallizing clear as day
Oh, I can picture you so easily, picture you so easily
Sapnap groaned sleepily, slowly lifting up his head more and blinking away his tiredness as he looked around at the desk, spotting his phone he clicked the home button to check the time; 6:26PM.
What's gonna be left of the world if you're not in it?
What's gonna be left of the world, oh
"Fuck-" Sapnap groaned as he realized he only had eight minutes to get ready before he would have to rush off to the bus stop.
Every minute and every hour
I miss you, I miss you, I miss you more
Every stumble and each misfire
I miss you, I miss y-
Sapnap paused the music, turning the computer off and rushing over to his closet where (he was kept in) and grabbing out a plain black hoodie, sliding the brown shirt he was wearing off and putting on the hoodie in its place before glancing around his room again, gaze landing on a white tee and he promptly threw it on top, a frown playing on his lips as he noticed a small red stain on the collar. He ignored it as he looked for pants.
Searching around his room again, he quickly gave up and decided to wear the pants he had in his sleep, ripped black jeans. Sapnap grimacing as he realized he had worn jeans to sleep and would probably have marks all over his legs because of it. He grabbed random socks from his dresser, not bothering to see if they matched. Black and white vans being placed on top as he has forgotten what type of gym classes he would be having that week, slightly hoping it would be health instead of the fitness, not in the mood to run around in circles for a grade he wouldn't even use later in life.
He grabbed his plain black backpack, which he had thrown on the ground carelessly after school on Friday and throwing it around his shoulders. He dashed into the kitchen, not bothering to try and be quiet as he knew that on Monday's his father would've fallen asleep at some random woman's house.
Grabbing a water bottle and running out the door, having placed his phone in his side pocket of the book bag already.
