Chapter 18.
___
[Now Playing: Be Nice To Me by The Front Bottoms]
~~~[POV: SAPNAP]
Yonderly (adj.) mentally or emotionally distant; absent-minded.
Sapnap stared out the window as he often did, avoiding an potential awkward conversation. They hadn't really discussed what had happened in the restaurant nights ago, nor did he really want too. Sapnap was sure that Punz had been told by that stupid bitch Dream that he was drinking and smoking in a bathroom, or maybe just that he'd fucked up the bitches nose?
He knew he'd fucked up when he punched Dream's nose, but did he actually care? Not particularly. Sapnap just hoped Punz didn't either and if he did that he wouldn't care either.
"-ap? Sapnappp hellooo?" Purpled was calling as they waved his hand in front of him. Sapnap blinked a few times before facing Purpled with a confused expression, not quite understanding what he wanted.
Punz and Ponk were both sitting quietly in the front seat, Ponk was listening to music with earbuds in bopping their head to the beat. Along with Punz in the driver seat looking distracted with something on his phone.
"Come on we're at your house, get out the car." Purpled rolled his eyes as they gestured towards the house with a nod. Sapnap frowned slightly, glancing at the driveway to make sure his father's car wasn't their. They'd planned to go get Sapnap's stuff and let him move in ever since that dinner as well, so at least it wasn't just a awkward and shit experience.
To his luck, it wasn't. His dad would probably be returning home soon so he'd have to hurry, Sapnap realized as he slipped out the car, taking note as he noticed Purpled following, leaving his two brothers in the car.
Sapnap walked up the two small concrete stairs onto the wooden porch, grimacing slightly as they creaked beneath his feet with each step. Quickly lifting up a plant pot with a long-dead fern shriveled up in it, and he grabbed the rusted key.
Twisting it into the doorknob and walking into the house, he slightly cringed at how it looked, knowing Purpled was probably silently analyzing each and every detail as Sapnap knew they often did, even unconsciously.
Sapnap crept to his room, walking on the tips of his foot despite knowing his dad was out. He took the backpack off his shoulders and tossed it to the ground as he grabbed his laptop off his desk in one arm as Purpled leaned up against his doorframe and stared around at Sapnap's room.
"Need some help? I can carry your blanket or something." Purpled remarked as Sapnap opened one of the drawers to grab some random clothes out of, giving a nod as he grabbed an assortment of hoodies. Turning to shove them into his backpack before repeating the process of grabbing random clothes and shoving them into his bag.
. . .
Sapnap was walking into the bathroom as Purpled was trying to fit his laptop into the bag, grabbing his toothbrush out of the old cup he kept it in, the cup was a old Pokémon cup he had gotten from his mother when he was a little kid. Sapnap hesitated before leaving the bathroom, still holding onto the orange toothbrush.
Placing it into the side pocket before getting distracted as he ran his fingers over the scratchy material. His gaze slightly unfocusing as his mind began to drift off because Purpled nudged him with the tip of their shoe.
Sapnap flinching away as he got up, attempting to cover it up as he looked around the now bare room. A few things remained, like his pillows and random trash on he'd had desk for months. The basic gray lamp also remained on his bedside table, it looked like any average room now. All of its personality having been stripped away.
It was almost eerie, he was used to seeing it with all sorts of things along the wall and his colorful blankets now hidden away in the bag. He frowned slightly as he looked around, before picking up his bag and slinging it over his shoulders. He was leaving behind his childhood house, and he couldn't feel more... blank.
Why was he so blank? Wasn't he supposed to be happy to be finally escaping his prison? Wasn't his prison what was containing him and his emotions? He was slightly confused in the back of the brain, but then again he didn't really care anymore. He just didn't care, he didn't really feel much. It was a fantastic experience to finally be numb, it was more freeing than actually being freed from his prison.
His brain felt empty and like a void, and he fucking loved it. There was no fear in the back of his brain and there wasn't any anxiety or anything!
Sapnap sighed in content as he walked out the door, throwing the rusted key into the dead fern's pot as he grabbed it out of his pocket. Walking back to the car where both Ponk and Punz were still vibing, ignoring the outside world as they were involved in their phones. Ponk was still listening to music, humming it as they bopped their head to music. Punz looked to be on Twitter or some other thing he was scrolling through.
Sapnap slid into the seat behind Punz and Purpled on the other side, who was still holding the blanket seeing as he wasn't able to fit it into the bag without moving most of the other stuff out of it. Punz nodded in their direction before reaching forward and starting up the car again, and twisted the knob to turn the radio on again.
"Oh fuck-" Punz whisper-yelled as the three of them without earbuds noticed the car pulling in, Sapnap's eyes widening slightly as Punz slammed his foot down on the pedal and took off down the neighborhood's road, quite obviously going past the speed limit. To their relief Sapnap's father didn't follow after them, Ponk lifting their head and took out a earbud as they finally noticed their surroundings and the car speeding down the street.
The other three snorted at Ponk's confused face, Punz finally slowing down as he turned a corner.
"Alright I'm turning into the town, where you guys wanna eat?" Punz asked as they slowed down more to the actual speed limit,
"I don't care, whatever you guys want." Purpled shrugged as they glanced at the others.
"McDonald's definitely," Sapnap chimed in his opinion, Purpled then nodding in hesitate agreement. Ponk humming his agreement and Punz giving a short nod before turning down a road that led to McDonald's.
