Ben pov

I rush forward to catch her as she falls. As scary as it is to watch her pass out, part of me is glad she isn't awake to feel the pain from the terrible claw marks. I've seen boat motor accident survivors with less damage than that...I wince at the thought. My brain races, struggling to process what just happened and what is happening now at the same time.

A hand waves in front of my face, and I gaze up to see Tory shove me out of the way to start pressing a bright Hawaiian-print shirt to the gashes in Katrina's side. Hawaiian shirt, Hi, she must have taken it from him. I distantly hear her barking orders to Shelton, something about a phone, and then directions at Hi, telling him to hold pressure.

They obey. Then there are hands on my shoulders and I'm being shaken. Things suddenly snap back into focus as Tory's face fills my field of view and her words slowly register.

"Ben...Ben! We need your strength right now, we need you to help carry her back to the car."

The car, of course. Shelton must be calling an ambulance, but we're currently out in the middle of nowhere so getting her at least back to road-access would be the best...provided we can move her safely. I turn and see Tory is already back at Katrina's side with my pocket knife in hand. Huh, she must have taken it off of me when I was out of it.

With quick, sloppy slices Tory tears off the remains of Katrina's shirt and begins to use the mangled material to secure the layered pad of Hi's shirt across her torso. Already blood is beginning to seep through, we need to move fast.

With Hi and Tory's assistance we manage to hoist her onto my back, pseudo fireman-carry style. Shelton is frantically babbling into his phone and Tory motions for him to follow as we quickly make our way onto the trail.
