A/N: Not much new yet, I'm going to try and stick to about a chapter every week or so. Enjoy! Chapter graphic from viralstheseries.com
Tory's pov
"We're so screwed." I looked up at Shelton as he repeated those damn words for at least the twentieth time in the past ten minutes while he paced endless circles by the bunker hill. We may have lost our precious bunker because of the Trinity, but we still liked to meet where it used to stand. Old habits, I guess.
My patience running thin, I didn't even bother respond, if I did I might have snapped at him. Hi was sifting through the sand, making various shapes with it. Ben sat cross-legged on the ground, staring aimlessly at the sea. He seemed calm on the outside, but if he was anything like the rest of us, then he was just as bothered about what had happened. While the boys were still freaking out, I silently ran through what had happened to get us all so disturbed.
It had been about [Insert time chunk] since we had discovered our flares were still intact, and it was only supposed to be a pack-bonding, hunting exercise, nothing more than a super powered game of hide and seek. But things went south after we had tackled Hi, who was this week's bait. My sniffer had detected a new, foreign scent that didn't belong, so we went to investigate. We had reached a clearing in a tangle of bushes not too far from our base when we heard the rustling of the bushes. It was a creature of some sort, the wind wasn't blowing the right way for me to catch the scent well enough to identify, but judging by the sound of it, it was something rather large.
We reached the clearing and saw the shape of something crouched down, turned away from us thankfully. My heart stopped for a second, it was a human. What was another person doing out here this late in the night? While my mind raced through numerous possibilities, each worse than the last. Hi spoke through my thoughts. "It's only a teenager, a girl I think, its hard to tell."
"There aren't any other teens on this island, much less females" I replied, suddenly very wary. Going by the need for our non-discovery, I decided we needed to out of there.
"Retreat with caution" I sent to the boys via mental link "silence is the key here"
"No, speed is key" Hi had chuckled to himself over his witty reference and, like the klutz he could be even while flaring, he crashed right into a bush. It sounded like a racket for our amplified ears, but it probably, hopefully, was just a slightly louder rustle to whatever was in the clearing. I was about to send a string of choice words to Hi about his gracelessness when the human turned around and looked right at us. Right at me.
Hi was right, it was a teenage girl, her alarmed eyes swept quickly over us, then stopped at me. Frozen, I could only stare back as she looked me in the eye. I was unnerved, she shouldn't be able to see well. We should only be shadows to her, so why has she focused on me? I try to glare at her, to let us know we are a threat and that she should turn tail and run, but I was already freaking out inside, and so were the guys, I could hear their frantic thoughts through our link.
"Vanish" I sent to the guys when she stayed where she was, just staring at us, probably trying to figure out what we were. We quickly turned tail and ran, back to the safety of our hill. Once we reached it, Shelton immediately burst out "We are so screwed."
"No duh" Ben replied "We should have done something other than stand there like idiots"
"Why was she even out there" Shelton's voice went up a notch "She's not from Morris island, why would she be out there in the middle of the night right where we were? Are we gonna get caught??"
"Shelton, calm down. She can't be out here for us, there's no way. Besides, she seemed as surprised to see us as we were to see her."
"Besides" Ben jumped in "she shouldn't have been able to see us."
"But she did!" Shelton exclaimed
"Not really" I jumped in before he started running off panicked theories of why she could have seen us "She may have looked at us directly, but she was staring like she couldn't see us well, she probably just saw our blazing blue eyes"
What I kept to myself though was how unnerved I still was over how her eyes immediately sought out mine and how it bothered me in a way that I didn't understand. It was almost as if she knew who I was to the pack, knew that I was the alpha. I look up and realize all of the guys -even Hi, who had stopped playing with his sand piles- were staring at me, waiting for my response. I sigh, and decide the best thing for us now was rest, we could worry about this mystery girl in the morning. "Go home" I told them "We can figure this all out tomorrow."
"Aye Captain!" Hi said, then leaped up and ran less than ten meters before slowing to a walk again. Ben and Shelton jogged for a few seconds to catch up with the goofball, leaving me to ponder about who we ran into. All I knew for sure was, this certainly was going to get interesting.
Note: After re-reading the last book again, I found some faults in my plotline (whoops) so they're fixed now, no worries. I'm working on the next chapter and hope to have it up by Wednesday the 17th, no promises though. Hope you liked it, feel free to leave any comments!
