A/N: So, so sorry for the delay guys! I've been super duper busy trying to get through life here and have had no spare time to work on this. I'll try to be more consistent, but things are getting hectic behind the scenes, so don't be too disappointed if I become a bit more sporadic with posts. I wish I could make it up to you somehow, but this is probably how it's going to go. Anyways, hope you all enjoy!
Katrina pov
I barely made it through the rest of the day. Everyone kept staring and snickering at me behind my back and I was certain that those nasty girls I ran into at lunch were the cause of it. The taunts became even more persistent and the tone to them even nastier.
I tried my best to sit in the back of each room so I could avoid the pieces of paper hurled whenever the teacher had their back turned, and also so I could escape from the room right when the bell rang. Unfortunately, the teachers often did not agree with my style of doing things, mainly because they seemed oblivious to my torment. The worst class in this case was my chemistry class.
It was the last hour of the day, so everyone was a toxic mix of brain-dead and end-of-day-riled-up. Due to this fact, my persecution was harsher than before. Paper wads turned to spitballs, glares turned to shoves, whispered words turned into pointed stage-whisper comments. I noted that Hi was in this class with me, but he walked in just barely before the bell and didn't even acknowledge me. To tell the truth, he probably didn't even notice me since I was in a back corner seat tucked amongst the lab tables. He sat down right as the bell rang, and then the teacher waltzed in and immediately decided to target me.
His name was Mr. Rutherford, according to the blinged-out sign on his cluttered desk, and his voice dramatically and boldly proclaimed "Students, we have a new arrival! Katrina Strider, would you present yourself please?"
Sighing to myself, I stood up and did a little wave. Apparently, that was not enough for him "Oh come on now, you can do more than that. Tell us about yourself; where did you move from, what you want to be when you grow up, what's your favorite color?"
"Well" I began "I moved from northern Minnesota, I'm not sure what exactly I want to be yet, and I like the color green."
Mr. Rutherford nods, satisfied for the moment. "Good, now why don't we all give a nice class welcome befitting of our school. Everyone, say hello to Katrina"
"Hello Katrina" Muttered a few people half heartedly. One voice in particular stood out to be louder and bolder than the rest and I turned to see Hi giving me a sympathetic smile. The teacher, on the other hand, was not smiling. "Come on guys, I know it's the last hour on a Monday, but seriously?"
"With all due respect sir" one of the girls in the front spoke with a hair flip and a loathsome grin "We've had to say hello to her all day and it's very dull. It's not like we even like her anyways, so why do you teachers have to keep shoving her in our faces"
I sank lower into my seat, a heavy feeling in my gut. I know that they all resented me by now, but this was a whole new level of spiteful tongue-lashing. Even though I shared a chemistry class with them, we obviously didn't have chemistry (pardon my play on words). But if they really despised me that much, then why can't they just leave me alone?
