{ chapter four : storming the castle }
"So tell me when you're gonna let me in,
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin."🛡🛡
Knowing that there was only a small window of opportunity before the fortress was found by the telmarine army. The group were meeting in the largest space available where Lucy sat on the broken stone table and listened to the others.
"It's only a matter of time." Peter paused, his eyes scanning the room. "Miraz's men and war machines are on their way, that means those same men aren't protecting his castle."
"What do you propose we do, your majesty?" Reepicheep asked, eyes glistening as he was sure war would be announced.
"We need to get ready for it-"
"To start planning for-"
There was a silence as Caspian and Peter glared at each other because they both believed themselves to be in charge but they had different strategies when it came to this battle. Caspian wanted to stay back and train, gather enough weapons and troops to defend the fortress whereas Peter wanted to attack.
"Our only hope is to strike them before they strike us." Peter argued.
Caspian shook his head. "Crazy, no one has taken the castle."
"There's always a first time."
"We'll have the element of surprise." Trumpkin offered his opinion, hoping it would help to settle things but made things worse.
"We have the advantage here!" Caspian snapped, his voice echoing around the room.
Susan stood from the stone and tried to diffuse the situation. "If we dig in, we could probably hold them off indefinitely."
"Aren't we underestimating their numbers?" Thorndash questioned, the others turning to look at where she was stood in the corner of the room. Her mind whirled with strategies and she had thought about this more than the others. "Surely, he would not leave his wife and heir unguarded at the castle?"
"I, for one, feel safer underground." Trufflehunter raised his paw, not too excited about sending his family into a disadvantaged battle.
"Look, I appreciate what you've done here but this isn't a fortress." Peter said to Caspian, pausing to express his worries. "It's a tomb."
"Yes, and if they're smart, the telmarines will just wait and starve us out." Edmund muttered under his breath as Thorndash moved to sit next to him.
"We could collect nuts!" Pattertwig exclaimed enthusiastically.
"Yes!" Reepicheep said sarcastically before shouting at the squirrel. "And throw them at the telmarines – shut up! I think you know where I stand, sire."
