{ chapter 12 : the oppressor }
"I'm waiting for a revelation,
I'm waiting for someone to count me in."🛡🛡
Everyone was busy on board the ship, Edmund was working hard on polishing his new sword because it was covered in barnacles and rust from age. Eustace was sitting alone and writing in his diary, probably complaining about everything that had happened since they arrived in Narnia. Lucy was keeping herself busy by sewing the clothes that Gwen had given her, despite them having similar figures, the older girl seemed to have matured in places that the younger hadn't and she was fixing them with the needle.
Caspian was watching the seas, standing by the wheel and overseeing everything from a better vantage point. He noticed Gwen was stood further down the ship, staring at the rolling waves and looking solemn compared to her usual emotions. Just as he was about to move towards her, he heard some kind of commotion.
Eustace was pushing through the crowd of crew, stumbling over his own feet to try and get away from someone. He was holding a sword in his hand but it didn't seem like he was comfortable to use it and panted as he ran.
"Trying to run away?" Reepicheep chuckled, swinging from some hanging rope and appearing in front of him. "We're on a boat, you know."
"Look, can't we just discuss this?"
"That was for stealing." Reepicheep slices open his shirt to reveal an orange that had been stolen. He pokes the orange with his sword and then slaps Eustace across his face with it. "That was for lying and that was for good measure."
Now that his shirt was ripped, Eustace was not happy and swung for the mouse but Reepicheep just laughed and hopped along the deck. "That's the spirit! We have ourselves a duel, catch." He throws the orange to the captain before sizing up the boy. "Now, come on, take your best shot. Is that it? Come on, boy. Focus, focus, yes! Now, stop flapping your wings like a drunken pelican. Poise! Keep your blade up – up, up – that's it!"
Eustace keeps swinging randomly, hoping that he would land a hit but misses due to his poor swordsman skills. Eventually his sword gets lodged into the wooden mast and the mouse takes the opportunity to swing over his head.
"Yoo-hoo! Over here! Now, lunge with your foot. Not your left, your right. Got it? Come on! Be nimble. It's a dance, boy – a dance. Come on. Now, again and again – that's right! That's-"
Reepicheep wobbles and falls backwards from the boat making Eustace believe that he had fallen overboard. He was always entertaining the crew and this was no different, his tail wraps around the back of the boy, tapping his shoulder.
"And that is that!" He pushes Eustace into a basket and knocks it over, causing a girl to scream. They watch as the young girl from the town climbs out of the basket and looks up at the crew members surrounding her.
